The story begins with a prologue where Dave is remembering his first intimate encounter with Sophia. However, it ends with him returning his mind to the present where it’s obvious he’s being held captive and tortured. How did this scene affect you throughout the story?

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1801 comments On the one hand, it was a sweet memory that revealed a lot about Dave and Sophia's developing relationship while increasing suspense. On the other hand, it also had me waiting for the other shoe to drop the entire time. I'm not a fan of that.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I loved his recollection and was glad that he and Sophia got together, and he was happy. But then when reality intruded, it was like a boulder hanging over my head. Having no idea when in the story this reality takes place it really ramped up the suspense.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I agree with both of you. It was a nice memory, but we knew that eventually Dave was going to be captured and tortured. I kept waiting for it to happen.

Yes! That was it, a sense of impending doom for the entire course of the story. Every time something happened to Dave, I thought, “This is it!”

I enjoyed his memory, though. It was incredibly sweet.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I agree with everyone. After the sweet beginning it was very tense and every page I was waiting for the capture.
