Dave turns out to be a highly skilled, formidable operative. Nash and Decker knew this but he seems to have been underestimated by everyone else. How had you seen him before this story?

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1803 comments Brockmann worked hard to portray Dave as a middle-aged, nerd more at home at a computer than in the field. Nevertheless, based on his actions in past books (didn't he save Decker by getting him out of a crushed car and hauling him miles in the snow?) and his background as a CIA agent, I wasn't at all surprised that he turned out to be John McClane, lol!

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I knew there was a lot more to him than what was portrayed in the previous books. I'm glad everyone got to see him in full James Bond mode.

She did a great job in seducing us into thinking of Dave as more of a mild mannered nerd. If I’d thought about it more closely, it would have occurred to me that he had to be formidable given his history. For both Nash and Tom to be impressed, he had to have serious game. Nevertheless, I didn’t think of him in the same category as those guys. Shame on me.
