I had heard such good things about this book that I was really looking forward to it, but in the end, I don’t have strong feelings either way, and the book seemed to lack direction for large parts. Arthur Less, the protagonist, seemed very self-absorbed as he travelled around the world to not have to face up to the fact that his boyfriend of the previous nine years was getting married, with a lot of Arthur’s time spent thinking mainly about what it means to be turning 50 in a couple of months. There are some amusing bits in this book, but I really didn’t like the ending, which brought my rating down.

Robin P | 5742 comments I liledd the ending, which brought my rating up! I like academic satires in general, having spent time in graduate school. But I agree this one wasn't that special.

Booknblues | 12060 comments People gave this mixed reviews. I gotta kick out of Arthur and I suppose that was necessary to enjoy the book.

Joy D | 10081 comments I liked this one but I have to say, the sequel is even better:
Less Is Lost

Amy | 12915 comments I did not care for this one. I remember that I was turning 50 around the time that Arthur Less was turning 50. And his attitude really bothered me. I pretty much wrote a scather. Which I think you guys and it was weird for me. But something about this pulled me out into rare form.
