At times, especially the final third of the book, this read like a thriller rather than a work of non-fiction. This book feels especially relevant now, when relations between the UK and Russia are as bad as they have been for a few years. The traitor mentioned in the title is rarely mentioned and I would have liked to have known more about him, as we only really know that he was spying for Russia for the money, which contrasts with Gordievsky’s motives. But it was still a gripping read, and a book that I didn’t want to put down.
