The story begins with the murder of Eugene Oscar and his mother Camilla. Did that scene offer any insights about the killer?

Once we were introduced to Camilla's brother and was provided a little background, I did suspect one of the his daughters, but my motive was off.

When I read the prologue, I was concentrating on trying to figure out if the gunman was a man or woman. I didn't come to any solid conclusions, but I felt like it was a woman who killed them.

My only thought at the time was that the killer was someone who had known both Oscar and his mother for a long time, primarily due to the killer's comment that the mother was aware of Oscar's "innate viciousness". Only someone very familiar with both would think like that.

I also had this sense.

I was sure the murderer was a woman. At first I thought it was his ex-wife or an ex girlfriend. I knew it was someone who Oscar hurt or abused and his mother covered up. For some reason I didn't think it was family. I kept waiting for someone he arrested and raped while in custody to appear.
