The Stalk-An-Author Challenge - April 2023

How it works:
To earn points in this challenge, simply read and review as normal, but if you would like to earn your team some bonus points, then the idea behind this challenge is to read multiple books by the same author.
Each time you or a team member posts a review on your team review thread, we will keep a tally of how many books have been read by that author, and once your team has read 5 or more, you will receive bonus points (at a rate of 10 bonus points per book for YA and Adult books, and 5 bonus points for children's/poetry/plays/illustrated books).
Guidelines:
* You may only claim one author per book, even if your book has multiple authors. But you can choose which author. (Same for adding books together to meet minimum page counts)
* Bonus points for authors will be awarded to the team rather than to individuals.
* Team bonus points will not be earned until, as a team, you have read 5 or more books per author.
* Tallys are kept as a team, so if 3 people on the same team read the same book, that will count as 3 books read by 1 author.
* There is no limit as to how many authors your team is allowed to read books by.
* You may also choose to stalk a narrator, translator, editor, illustrator etc. just make it clear which person you are using when you post your review.

Points:
* Points will only be given for pages read in April.
Types of Books + Page Counts + Points:
* The minimum page counts for points are:
~ Adult/YA without illustrations = 50 pages
~ Middle-grade/children's books without illustrations = 75 pages
~ Manga, graphic novels, plays, poetry, and books written in verse = 150 pages
* Books may be added together to reach these minimums, as long as all books are under the minimum.
Reviews:
* A review or 4 detailed updates will be required for each book read.
* One book per comment on the review thread (unless adding books together).
* Maximum of 10 reviews per person in a day.
Re-Reads / Starting Again:
* Re-reads are allowed in this challenge.
Buddy Reads:
* Buddy reads must take place within this group to gain buddy read points.
* You must make at least 4 comments, including a reply to a buddy if possible.
* You may start up to 7 days before the start date, and 14 days after.
* GBRs also count.
Start Times:
* This challenge will begin and end on Goodreads time (PST) - 00:01 on April 1st 2023 PST, to 00:01 on May 1st 2023 PST.
Got a Problem? Noticed Something Wrong?:
* Please make a new post on your team's review thread, and let us know the problem ☺
Sign-Up:
* Please comment here to join, teams will be posted towards the end of March.
The Long Version -

★ YA/Adult Books (without illustrations) - *1 point per 50 pages*
(view spoiler)
(Maximum of 12 points per book)
★ Middle-grade/children's books (without illustrations) - *1 point per 75 pages*
(view spoiler)
(maximum of 8 points per book)
★ Graphic novels/manga/poetry/plays/books written in verse/books which have some illustrations - *1 point per 150 pages*
(view spoiler)
(maximum of 4 points per book)
★ Buddy reads MATCH your points score for pages, so a 300-page book (6pts) + buddy read (6pts) = 12 points.
(view spoiler)
(Bonus points for buddy reads will only be given if the buddy read has taken place in this group.)
★ If books are long enough to count on their own (50/75/150 pages) they will be scored on their own.
If you read two novellas of 80 pages each, you will receive a 1 in the books read column as together they are over 100 pages, and 1 page point for each (2 points total), as each book is individually long enough to earn points. This applies to all types of points.

* Individual bonus points will be awarded based on page count, the same as page points and buddy read points. So if you read a 300 page book that also has completes a description, you will receive 6 page points and 6 bonus points ☺
* Team bonus points will be awarded based on the number of books read, as a team, by any one author. There is no limit as to how many authors may be used.
* Bonus points will be awarded at a rate of 10 bonus points per book (YA/Adult) or 5 bonus points per book for children's/illustrated/poetry/plays etc. but only once 5 books have been read by any one author.
* If any author has not been read 5 or more times, your team will not receive bonus points for that author.

Over 600 pages unillustrated book = 12 points
Over 600 pages unillustrated childrens/middle-grade book = 8 points
Over 600 pages illustrated/poetry etc. = 4 points
★ Mods will keep track of each team's points, using the following system -

This challenge will be a team challenge. We will have a small number of teams, with a mixture of readers in each. When signing up please let us know whether you would like to be on a team, or whether you would like to go solo ☺
Teams should be posted by late March. If you sign-up after teams are posted, we will try to add you to a team, but we may not always be able to. You may be asked to join a waiting list. Please sign-up as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
Thank you! ☺

Q - I'm looking at a 5-book MG & 3-book YA series by the same author. Would I still achieve the bonus points for the 3 YA books? (Assuming I'm the only one reading this author on my team.)
A - Yes you will ☺
Q - I have four full length novels and one short story by an author. The story is only 27 pages but could I combine it with a short story by another author and still claim it for the author who I've also read the full four length novels for?
A - Yes, if you combine two books to reach the minimum page count, you can pick which author to use ☺
I think I'm going to come back to doing the challenge! Team please (roughly a book every 2-3 days as I haven't done challenge for a while :))

This will be a team reading challenge which will run from April 1st 2023 to April 3oth 2023. Results will be announced on May 1st 2023.
To complete this challenge, participants will be split into teams. Each team will read books of their own choice (which fit the challenge guidelines), and points will be awarded based on the length of the book, and whether you have buddy-read your book. You can also earn some bonus points by reading multiple books by the same author.
You may also choose to take part in this challenge as a solo participant ☺
