The Valid book records article in the Librarian Manual has been updated to include the following:
- periodicals and bound comic books with ISBNs (including literary magazines, regardless of binding)
- periodicals without ISBNs but substantially similar to books, defined as literary magazines valuably contributing or dedicated to literature, regardless of binding
- single-issue literary magazines with an ASIN (Kindle format)
These are also included as exceptions in the Librarian Manual article on Non-book items.
