Casey Richie This book struck my eye because I love the sport of baseball. The book heat by Mike Lupica is such a great book that not only tells a great story about baseball but it also tells a great story about Michael Arroyo and how he overcomes adversity. This kid has amazing baseball talent and gets told that he can play baseball anymore unless he can prove that he is 12 but he was left without a mom and his dad just passed away before they take away the sport that he loves most. Not only do they take away the sport he loves but he is left with his older brother and an apartment to take care of just them two. No matter what happened to him he still has a smile on his face. This kid would still go to his games to help the team and super them through the season. Now that baseball has been taken from him CPS is coming knocking at the door because they don't have any parents taking care of them and they should not be living on their own. Micheal's best friend Manny comes to the rescue as Manny's cousin is an actor and he can act as their dad when CPS comes to check on them in a couple of weeks. The worst thing for a baseball player to be worried about is a girl and Michael catches a glimpse at Ellie and now he can't stop thinking about her. Things are going great with him and Ellie and then she ghosts him and he is devastated so now this kid has lost his dad and baseball and now a girlfriend but now life flips around for him. He passed the CPS house check and now all he needs is someone back in Cuba to help him get his birth certificate. All through this pain that he is going through he still makes time for his team and for baseball because that is the sport he loves. But he can't stop thinking about Ellie so he goes to her dad El Grande that plays for the Yankees. He gave El Grande a note and told him to give it to Ellie. Him and his best friend are now headed to warm ups in the last game before the big game in the Yankees stadium and it has been his dream to play there. He shows up to see his older brother, his best friend El Grande and Ellie all at the game. Little did he know that his best friend called Ellie to see if her dad El Grande had any way to get his birth certificate and he did. He was able to finish out the last game before the big game with his crush and with his idle El Grande and he helped his team come back and win to move on to the big game. This book was so inspirational how he went through all of that but still wanted to follow his dream.
