Zoë (inareaderseyes) | 7 comments Hi! So I'm kind of new to the group, and I have no idea if there was a specific spot I'm supposed to put this question.

But I'm writing a book where the main character is Afro-Latino. Her mother is hispanic, and her father is black. How do I write her character properly, without sending disrespect or offense?

Frances Richardson | 62 comments Zoe, check to see if your library has a book titled Reading Like a Writer, by Francine Prose. The book deals with all aspects of writing. I think you might find Chapter six, “Character,” very helpful.

Zoe,

My suggestion is to look for a critique group or partner with at least one sensitivity reader who is familiar with your MC's dynamic.

Zoë (inareaderseyes) | 7 comments Any tips for writers' block? I've hit a major point, been stuck for the past 2 weeks. :(

Peter Azzole (pjazzole) | 2 comments You might take a look at PLOTTR for some help with plotting, flow, structure, etc. I have no vested interest in it, but I use some of the features for guidance.

Write something just for fun, not related to your WIP. Play with words.

Sorry to hear that. You might want to try varying where or how you write (pen and paper instead of a computer, or a different space to write). It can sometimes be helpful to just write nonsense, to free yourself up from it being perfect.
