Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments 30 days until Readathon! I'm getting excited because I have no conflicts this time (so far *fingers crossed*) and can fully dive into it.

I'm already thinking about my TBR and planning to finish up books beforehand so I can start on the day with fresh material.

Looking forward to all you fun fellow readers posting about your plans for the big event :)

I love Neil Simon movie-plays. He is on my so-cool-for Dewey's list at local library. Have fun reading the plays :-)

Thanks, Cynda! I'm on a quest to read them all this year.(there are four volumes with roughly seven plays each!) They're dated, but still fun.

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments Long Lap 3 (626 pages total):

The Dark Hours - 168 pgs, finished
The Collected Plays, Vol. 2 - 160 pgs
Thank You for Being Late: An Optimist's Guide to Thriving in the Age of Accelerations - 51 pgs
Life After Life - 212 pgs (audio)
Clarissa, or, the History of a Young Lady
- 3 pgs
The Lady in the Lake - 8 pgs
Nature, Love, Medicine: Essays on Wildness and Wellness - 24 pgs

I didn't get close to my 1000-page goal, but that's ok. ANY reading is good reading.

Turns out I do have a conflict on Readathon day. My older daughter (last time our younger daughter was here) is arriving on Saturday instead of Monday, as originally planned. She will be here for an extended visit, however, (she works remotely), so I know she will understand if I hang out for a few hours, then head back to the books!
I have a crazy week ahead, so will probably not be doing the "sprints". My next post will likely be my TBR. Good luck to everyone in their pre-readathon prep this week!

No one (but me) is obsessed in my family, either! Everyone "likes" to read, but that's it. At least they indulge me. :)

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments Well, that was a crazy week. I didn't get to prep like I wanted, but I finally have my stack together. (It's 10:00 p.m. now and I begin the RAT at 6:00 a.m!) I'll be mood-reading from the following:

Whereabouts
The Book of Goose
The Easy Life in Kamusari
Every Day in Tuscany: Seasons of an Italian Life
In Other Rooms, Other Wonders - also on audio
The Green Mile
The Collected Plays, Vol. 2 (already in progress)
Nature, Love, Medicine: Essays on Wildness and Wellness (already in progress)
The Last Cuentista
The Quest of the Missing Map

Happy Readathonning, everyone!

Even if less prep, still here!! :) I was up early for me which is weird. TOO early but oh well, going with the flow and already on the first coffee pot

We're almost there! Best of luck and reading to you today!

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments Hours 1 - 6

Aaack! The time is going by too fast! I had an exhausting week and didn't get enough sleep last night, so I'm taking a more relaxed approach this time. I read the first hour, then napped the second. I'll probably do 6-hour updates here with pages read, then add hours at the end.

The Book of Goose - 81 pgs
The Last Cuentista - 17 pgs (audio)
The Easy Life in Kamusari - 58 pgs

That's all you need, really! People to support you! :) I should read The Green Mile soon. Hope you're getting some reading done!

message 27: by Ann A (new)

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments Hours 7 - 12

Since last update:

The Easy Life in Kamusari - Last 131 pgs. I really enjoyed this one.
The Last Cuentista - 56 pgs (audio) This is a Newbery winner and very good. I took a nice walk while listening and just wanted to keep going!

My daughter will be arriving soon, so I'll be taking an hour or two off then getting back to it!

message 28: by Ann A (new)

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments Hours 13 - 18

Since last update:

The Green Mile - 47 pgs

I ended up hanging out with family most of the evening. I'll likely turn in soon, but am hoping to be back for the last hour. Final update tomorrow.

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments Recap

The Easy Life in Kamusari - 189 pages, finished. I really enjoyed this, plus I learned a lot about forestry.
The Book of Goose - 81 pages. Won the Tournament of Books this year, but I'm not enamored so far.
The Last Cuentista - 132 pages. This Dystopian thriller won the 2022 Newbery, and I can't wait to get back to the audiobook today!
The Green Mile - 47 pgs. Stephen King - 'nuff said. Another I can't wait to get back to.

Total, pages: 449
Total, hours: 9 hr 14 min (6 hr 30 min reading, 2 hr 44 min audio)

I'm pleased with my results, given I took the evening "off".
Thanks to all who stopped by. As always, can't wait for the next one!

message 35: by Susan (new)

Susan | 986 comments Three cheers for a great Readathon plus time with family! You’re definitely reading a hard to put down book with The Green Mile! The Last Cuentista sounds excellent — I’m going to see if the library here has the audio. Hope to see you next time!

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments Reverse Readathon - July 2023

I debated whether to even try to participate this time as I have conflicts (again), but reading through all your threads got me so excited I have to jump in and just do what I can. <3

I'm not putting together a stack of 10 like I usually do, but will just be reading from a few books already in progress:

Yellowface
The Crime at Black Dudley
The Honourable Schoolboy
Call Us What We Carry: Poems
Clarissa, or, the History of a Young Lady

Hopefully, I can get in at least 4 or 5 hours!

Good luck to all you Reverse Readathonning...Readers!

message 39: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 412 comments Stacks can be fun, but honestly, just getting into what you want, whenever is also good. And if have several underway, it it the perfect excuse to finish them up and start clean the next week. Happy reading!

Welcome back, Ann! Ooh Yellowface! I haven't read ANY Kuang yet but I've heard good things about The Poppy War, Babel, AND Yellowface!

Hi, Ann, Glad you can join in this time however you can. Your choices all look interesting. I am a Margery Allingham mystery fan, and that reminds me it’s been awhile since I read her (maybe time for some rereading). Even longer since I read my way through Clarissa! (That was back in the day when people still wrote letters ;). She wouldn’t be the same in email… Enjoy your reading!

Thanks, Jamie. I agree about the stacks - sometimes I'm too set on my traditional "stack of 10" instead of just going with the flow.
Good luck to you!

I loved Babel and am enjoying Yellowface, although it's very different (from Babel). I'm a big fan of her writing. It's always exciting to find great, new authors! Good luck on your Readathon.
