2016, This book is about an oriental girl, I think Japanese and something to do with the moon. It was a pretty long book and I got it around 2016 in paperback. It didn't start out science fiction but towards the climax it did when the girl crossed over or something like that. I just know it had to do with the moon.

1Q84 by Murakami is set in Japan. There's an element of parallel worlds with the moons appearance being subtly different in each.
