The kidnapping of Avery goes horribly wrong with Grandmother Lola brutally murdered, and Avery attacked, shot and left for dead. Young FBI Agent John Paul Renard rescues Avery, becoming a hero in her eyes. Your thoughts on the rescue scene and Avery’s feelings toward the agent who eventually led her to work for the FBI?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments John Paul wasn't the agent who rescued Avery. The agent had a great impact in Avery and as a girl who didn't have many male role models he was a standout.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments The only thing I remember about this scene was Avery had been shot and nearly died.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I don't think the agent was John Paul. I need to go back and check this part.

Whoever he was, he did change Avery's life. She focused on getting into the FBI after that. She has great instincts and should be an agent. However, she made a big impact as an analyst.

I'll try to recheck my facts on this one. For some reason, I thought it was a young John Paul who rescued her. My apologies if I'm wrong.

I was wrong...my apologies! Avery credits another agent who prevented Dale from kidnapping her in his second attempt as the reason she wanted to join the FBI. John Paul comes into it when he's chasing the Monk at the spa.

I had read the book earlier and then went back to pull questions. Going forward, I'll be reading & creating questions as I go so the facts will be fresher in my mind. lol

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments No problem, Sandra. I'm just happy you are willing to do this. I love the discussions. The agent impressed a young Avery and showed her that she could overcome having Jilly as her mother.

Thanks, Anita. I appreciate y'all joining in the discussions...it does enhance the reading experience.

And to all of you who participate - If something strikes you as a great point of discussion as you're reading one of the books going forward, please feel free to message me and I'll make sure to add it to our discussion questions.

Jessica | 156 comments Gosh I barely remember the rescue scene either. I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's been a long month!

If I can get ahead on the reading a bit, I will remember to message any potential questions. At this point, I haven't even started the next book yet.
