Carrie convinces Avery to meet her at the spa, but travels separately. When a handsome man named Monk meets Carrie at the airport as a representative of the spa saying there’s a maintenance issue at Utopia, she travels with him to a mansion where they’ll “wait.” Two other women guests travel with them. Did you get any “something’s not right” vibes at this point? Were the women too gullible? Should they have been more suspicious? Why or why not? Did you recall Monk from Mercy?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Of course, I got bad vibes for this! I remembered Monk is a killer from Mercy. His spiel seemed reasonable, and his delivery was flawless, the women didn't have a clue. I was so glad that Carrie got away from him in the restroom and called Avery. A call from Carrie directly to the resort would have uncovered everything, but it did seem reasonable, and I knew it wasn't.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I remembered Monk from the previous book, so I knew he was up to no good. The things he told the women made sense to me. They knew someone would pick them up at the airport and there he was. He explained the problem at the spa and that they would be staying at another place for a short time. I probably wouldn't have questioned what he told me.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I agree with everyone. I knew Monk wasn't legit. I didn't know if he was after the women he was picking up, or he was using them as a way to get access to the spa. Either way, I knew someone was dead.
