Carrie and the judge escape the mansion while one woman remains behind. Why did she risk all to help Carrie and the judge escape, thus sealing her own fate when the house explodes? What role did her husband, who she’d so staunchly defended, play in her decision? Share your feelings on this scene and what purpose it serves.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I felt so sorry for her. She was so in love with her hot, young husband she didn't realize he was killing her. I think she finally faced that reality and being so ill, just gave up.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I wasn't sure what was going on with her. I suspected that she was dying and decided to stay in the house until it exploded. Deep down she knew her husband was using her for her money. She didn't have it in her to fight back. She just gave up.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I agree. Anne was so in love with her husband. All the while, he was a bad man. Ann knew her husband was plotting her death with the garbage he was feeding her about their insurance. For her, death was better than facing the truth.

She reminded me of Sharon Tate's character in Valley of the Dolls who committed suicide.

Good comparison, Sharon! I had forgotten about Tate in VotD's.

I hated Anne's husband and what he did to her. She had enough to deal with and needed his support, but he just pushed her over the edge. Her character was heart breaking for me. At least she went out doing a courageous thing and saving the other two women.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Anne even tried to warn the wife about the explosives. She didn't really want anyone else to die.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 397 comments Mod
Yes she did, Anita! Repeatedly tried to keep her outside the house.

Jessica | 156 comments Maybe Anne wanted her husband to go down for murder. That's why she gave the letter to Carrie.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Anne was sad when she finally came to face the truth about her husband. She didn't want to admit the truth to Carrie and the Judge, but she realized her husband needed to be held accountable and her truth needed to be told.
