rae (jurdan's version) Like explain how you got into reading <33 My story is:

So I have this cousin who reads a lot (she's a lot older than me) I used to read but not THAT much it was just random books here and there. And so one time I went over to her house and she gave me the first Percy jackson book and the first School for Good and Evil book. Ever since then, I've loved reading :) So blame my cousin, Summer, for my obsession ✨

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't used to read myself, my mom read TO me, and then when I got old enough, I started reading but not too much. Then my grandfather got me my first Harry Potter book, and I fell in love with reading then!

°. Stefana ☆ taylor's version ☆ (ravendy) it's a long story. initially I was reading from Wattpad. I had learned about the application from a friend who did not read and I was very surprised when I found out that she was reading a book. so I wanted to read it too. then, after a year or two, I was at my cousin's and I saw volume 4 of Harry Potter. I asked him if he had read the other volumes because I had not seen them and he said no. so I had to read Harry Potter too. just because I was curious. and since then I started reading.

°. Stefana ☆ taylor's version ☆ (ravendy) just to be clear, I was in that period when I refused to read because my parents told me that I should read. and now, my friends tell me that I read too much and that I should relax. (I don't have friends who read) and that I'm annoying when I start talking about books :)

loll all my friends like to read. My parents never forced me though.

°. Stefana ☆ taylor's version ☆ (ravendy) not that they forced me, but they told me from time to time

oh ok lol

August (Dean's Version) My mom was an English teacher (she retired not died dw), so I ended up teaching myself to read when I was three. The answer to this is probably Hop on Pop or Go Dogs Go by Dr. Seuss. However, in late 2020 I stopped reading for personal reasons and didn't start again until late last year (except for when I read The Lightninf Thief last April.) So I guess the book that got me BACK into reading is Shadow and Bone. Since I finished it, aside from when I'm busy, I've been reading multiple times a day.

❃A.J❃ (bibliophagist) | 18 comments When I was little my mother used to tell me bedtime stories a lot. I think that developed my interest in the field. So, I have always loved reading! Ever since I was six years old I would read a lot of storybooks (so much that my mother got tired of buying them for me!). And I read my first novel when I was 12 and got into reading novels ever since!

message 10: by Annika (new)

Annika | 10 comments my parents read to me as a child, we started to read the first Harry Potter books together and ever since I read. First many many horse books and than fantasy. During the final years of high school I only read required school books but nothing else. But after school I got into it again and never stopped.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

a lot of us started with harry potter then!

aurora (taylor's version) (aurorajo) | 35 comments I've always liked the idea of reading, but when I was in 3rd grade I read the harry potter books, and it was one of the first book series I read completely by myself without my mom or teacher or whatever, so from there on out I loved to read. I think it followed with fablehaven and then percy jackson, and I've been obsessed with reading ever since

message 13: by myanotmaya (new)

myanotmaya (myaaaaaaah) It was probably a mixture of things for me, but my brother was always a big reader and my dad read books with me as bed time series when I was younger. So we got through the ‘Laura & Jack’ and ‘little house on the prairie’ books, the Anne of Green gables books (a lot of historical books I’m realizing).

Kahaia | 3 comments My mom work as a librarian so I just grow up with my mom & dad reading books :) My siblings was not readers at all. But she always push me into reading, and I fell in love with reading so it was pretty simple for me <3

Emma! (iamfunny) | 12 comments When i was little i always hated trying to learn to read. I always got pissed when i was wrong and that's probably why i learned to read only when i was almost seven. I got into reading probably when i was in second or third grade. I first started reading Nancy drew books then i read some longer books like harry potter ( i read them in Finnish cause that's my native language). I guess i just started to like it. Now i have an almost seven year old little sister that hasn't learned to read yet and i say to her that it will be super fun, but i don't think she believes me. hopefully, she will become a reader too when she is older. My other little sister that is 10 likes to read. She has these phases when she reads; then it may be a month before she reads again so much. To her, I'm a role model.

message 21: by HorrorBabe911 (new)

HorrorBabe911 (zullydj) Always liked reading. Read here or there. But school bummed me out so I let it go (since I had to do mandatory txtbook reading) once I graduated I picked up house in the cerulean sea because I saw everyone on Booktok/ book tube talking about it and I gave it a shot.—-that led to fall back in love with reading.

Books & Reviews with Eszter | 7 comments Fun fact, I hated reading when I was 6-7. I hated reading for school assignments, that it was even torture to read for 25-45 minutes. When I got the first Harry Potter book as a gift for my 9th birthday from one of my mom’s church friends, my life changed forever. I didn’t read it at first, but then decided to read it one day cuz why not 🤷‍♀️. It was just sitting there, and I wanted to give it a shot. (FYI- I watched the movies before this, so I kind of knew what to expect). Next thing I knew I loved it, and checked out all of the other books from my local library. Ever since, I’ve been a dedicated and sort of chaotic bookworm.

Sophia's Secret Hide Out | 3 comments I always wanted to stay up late when I was like, in kindergarten and my mom would let me stay "late",looking back wasn't that LATE lol, but I would have to just look at books which I hated for a couple months but then I got into some I can read book with Rapunzel. Then I started reading Thea Stilton in first grade and it just continued from there!

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

I got to reading because of Percy Jackson, The first Harry Potter book, and my mom who used the keyword is USED here. She is the one who got me into reading.

message 33: by Caleb (new)

Caleb Williams | 2 comments Heyo everyone! this is my first post in this group. So I've always been required to read (as a part of my homeschool program), but soons I got my first device, I saw the habit slowly break down. I completely stopped reading for fun, and eventually spent my free time binging TV shows like breaking bad (gr8 show btw).
My grandpa broke this unhealthy state. I remember staying at his place a couple summers ago, and noticing that he actually had quite the collection of fiction. At dinner I asked the family about his books, and my grandma and mum started poking fun, labelling them as cheesy fiction and overall "dumb reads". The next day, my grandpa handed a few to me. They were Clive Cussler stories, and had great characters and imagery. I'll admit that they were a little cheesy, but they sure were fun! I invested most of my time into them and read about ten that summer!
That was two years ago. In more recent months, I've found myself reading more Jane Austen and Hemingway...the classics. I've got a friend who's a really good influence. She's been diving into the classics and made me realize that I should probably do so to. Although I'd now consider myself a literary and refined reader, I'm always thankful to my grandpa and his collection of cheesy-books as they are what truly rekindled my desire to read.

message 34: by Merkintin (new)

Merkintin | 2 comments The Goosebumps series when I was a kid. I remember asking to go to the bathroom and reading them instead of sitting through class. I eventually got caught by the teacher. He just laughed.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

So I had read a few books before that we just had at home, but there was a time we were staying in an airbnb for a loooong time and I read little women in four days and a wrinkle in time in one night. I was 13 at the time, so only two years ago heh...
After that I was asking all my friends all their faves and stuff, so I just got big into reading.

message 37: by aradhya (new)

aradhya (bookspsychosis) I used to read when I was younger. But as time passes, reading doesn't comes hand to hand with me. During covid, I was bored as hell when I found a app. First, i used to read stories in my native language and then I jumped into the bigger world, the literature world. Now, I'm on Goodreads now.
This is my story how I got into reading <3

message 38: by Krystal (new)
