Richard Parkin | 30 comments I published my last book a few years ago through Ingram Spark and also on Amazon, as a paperback. It featured 10 full page pen and ink illustrations so I was reluctant to use the e-book format, but this Easter I've decided to release one as part of relaunch campaign.

I've created the book on Vellum and tested it on Kindle Preview. It seems fairly straightforward to add to the original listing on Amazon. But what about other platforms/stores? Apple, for example. The file does not contain the ISBN from the original, is it necessary? should that be added to the copyright page?

I'm a bit rusty on this process.

V.P. Nightshade (vpnightshade) | 4 comments Hi Richard,
You need to have a separate ISBN for each format that you publish your work in. 1 for Ebook, 1 for paperback, 1 for hardback, etc. You can use the free one provided by Amazon for their ebooks - but then you can't use that to publish on other platforms because it is not registered to you, it is registered to Amazon.

I get my own ISBNs and also register my work through the copyright office. Yes, everyone does have an automatic copyright, BUT if you ever run into a problem unless you have a cert through the copyright office you can't sue for damages (or attorneys fees if I remember correctly). Without the cert you are limited to suing to put a cease and desist against someone who is illegally copying/republishing your work, that's it.
