Staci | 1071 comments What are your reading plans for this week? Any suggestions for books that meet the called categories for April 10-23?

message 11: by Emily (new)

Emily | 234 comments I’ve been scouring my tbr lists for books that meet the requirements. So far I have:
The Case for Christ (pub 1998)
The Horse and his Boy (horse)
The Telling of the Beads by Avellina Balestri (299 pg)
The Hunter by Hannah E Carey (249 pg)
The Snow Wolf by Amberlyn Holland (219 pg)
Whitehorse Peak by PG Badzey (horse)

We’ll see how many I get done. I’m also curious if my co-workers at the library will have any suggestions.

message 12: by Emily (new)

Emily | 234 comments I also used some filters on Amazon to find Christian horse books. I hope this link works: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Horse&...

message 13: by Katrina (last edited Apr 10, 2023 08:32AM) (new)

Katrina Lybbert | 78 comments I am planning to read the following books for the categories:

The Last Chance Cowboy (horse)
Foremost (published 2019)
A Place at Our Table (table)

Body of Evidence (Triple Threat, #3) by Irene Hannon Body of Evidence (do you think this would count for a table? It is a coroner's table.)

I'll take autopsy/coroner's table for table.

As a reminder, you can read as many books as you want, books only need to work for one of the called categories to earn the bonus points, and any books read that don't work for any category will still earn page points.

message 15: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Lybbert | 78 comments Great, thanks, Melanie. I will probably read Body of Evidence then rather than A Place at Our Table, but if I get them both done.... just more bonus points.

message 16: by Staci (new)

Staci | 1071 comments Next categories called! These go through May 7:

Cover | must be found on the cover of the book
Called: Grass

Words | can be found in title, author's name, series' name, or even in the book's text (if using text, please list the sentence where it is found)

Called: Bridge

Numbers | can be found in the title/series/name, page count, or publication date

Called: 19

message 17: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Lybbert | 78 comments I will do my best over the next two weeks to get some books read, but this particular Round (Round 2) will be tricky as my son is getting married on May 5, so I will be busier than usual!!

message 18: by Emily (new)

Emily | 234 comments Things are a little crazy for me too right now. I’ll be moving houses in two stages, so basically two moves a month apart. I will be doing my best to listen to audiobooks as I pack and things like that.

That a lot! Moving is SO much work. I pray all goes great with both moves.

message 21: by Staci (new)

Staci | 1071 comments My family has a lot going on right now too. My daughter will soon graduate from college - hooray! My son is a college freshman and we'll need to get both of them moved out of their dorms the same weekend as graduation. Fortunately, their schools are only an hour apart.

message 22: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Lybbert | 78 comments Good luck with all your moving, Emily, audiobooks are a great way to get reading done when busy.

Congrats to your daughter, Staci, that is wonderful! Good luck with moving out of the dorms. Our son who is getting married graduated college last year, and I know how busy it gets with both moving and grad ceremonies.

message 23: by Staci (new)

Staci | 1071 comments May 8-21 has been announced. I think this will be easier to find. The word "tree" is likely to be found in most books.

This round's called IT items are:

Called: Dog

Words | can be found in title, author's name, series' name, or even in the book's text (if using text, please list the sentence where it is found)

Called: 16

message 24: by Emily (new)

Emily | 234 comments How is everyone’s reading going? Has anything been really good that you read so far?

message 25: by Staci (new)

Staci | 1071 comments Busy weekend so not much reading time. How did we get to Monday so quickly?

Numbers | can be found in the title/series/name, page count, or publication date

Called: 10

message 27: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Lybbert | 78 comments Emily wrote: "How is everyone’s reading going? Has anything been really good that you read so far?"

I just finished A Heart Adrift by Laura Frantz and loved it!! I found the bonus word "tree" in the story. It could have been used for grass on the cover, but I didn't read it during that called week.

For this new round I am hoping to get the following books with shoes on the cover:
Something Old, Something New by Amy Clipston
This Time Around by Denise Hunter

I will look for the word chair in the books I read.

Anyone have any suggestions for the number 10?

Good finds on shoes! This is a favorite with shoes.

Numbers | can be found in the title/series/name, page count, or publication date

Called: 7

message 30: by Staci (new)

Staci | 1071 comments Lots of books with dresses on the cover. Umbrella may be a little harder to find than chair was.

Happy reading all!

message 31: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Lybbert | 78 comments I found umbrella... it is in the book Bless Your Heart, Rae Sutton by Susannah B. Lewis at least 4 or 5 times in the first chapter!

Awesome! I hope to read that same book during this two week window.

message 35: by Staci (new)

Staci | 1071 comments I think Jen's would, but not sure about Liz' book.

Liz's book has "key" in its text - page 45.

message 37: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Lybbert | 78 comments Great, thanks ladies!

message 38: by Staci (new)

Staci | 1071 comments Next round called! I think this will be easier than the last one. Shouldn't a flower be mentioned in every book? :-)

Round 8: July 17th-30th

This round's called IT items are:

Cover | must be found on the cover of the book
• Called: Mode of transportation (car, plane, wagon, ship, etc.)

Called: 18

message 39: by Emily (new)

Emily | 234 comments Sorry, team. I haven’t been on top of this challenge at all this time around. I moved, got a new puppy, and am starting to plan a wedding and a second move. It’s hard to read when I’m so busy and so happy daydreaming about and living my real life. I have read some books, though, and I just updated what I read over the past month. When I do read, I’ll try to keep it updated more often.

message 40: by Staci (new)

Staci | 1071 comments Life happens Emily. Enjoy these special moments. This is just a game so not a big deal at all.

message 41: by Staci (new)

Staci | 1071 comments Round 9: July 31st-August 13th

This round's called IT items are:

Cover | must be found on the cover of the book
• Called: Hat

Words | can be found in title, author's name, series' name, or even in the book's text (if using text, please list the sentence where it is found)

Called: Fence

🚨Plurals allowed, but otherwise must be exact (i.e. flowers is okay, but cannot use a type of flower [rose] for the word flower).

Numbers | can be found in the title/series/name, page count, or publication date

Called: 2

message 42: by Staci (new)

Staci | 1071 comments This should be easy with the number "2" so long as you are reading a book written in 2000 something.

message 43: by Staci (new)

Staci | 1071 comments That was fun! Special thanks to Jenn for joining late and going back to add her reads back to the beginning. That's a lot of work.

I almost finished two books last night, but I was too tired. Glad to know they wouldn't have made a difference for us. :-) First place was well ahead of the others.

message 44: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 28 comments I ejoyed being a part of your team even if it was only for a short time! I had a couple of books that I had intended to finished yesterday, but suddenly it was very late after a busy day. I was too worn out to finish them, also. Good job, you guys :)

message 45: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Lybbert | 78 comments Great game team! Thanks, Jenn, for joining us. You did do a lot of work to post all your books back to the beginning. Thanks so much! It was a lot of fun, and I think I read books I may not have read if not for the challenge. It will seem strange not looking for a word in the text when reading a book for the next little while... lol. :)

message 46: by Staci (new)

Staci | 1071 comments Yes! The word "home" kept jumping out as I finished a book this afternoon.
