hi guys! i'm curious about what fantasy characters you've found to be the most compelling? not just main characters-- who left you constantly wanting to know more?

**spoilers for priory of the orange tree**

i DESPERATELY wish more time had been spend on kalyba's (the witch of the woods) character as she was, arguably, the most intriguing character in the entire book. all of the fragments of her plan that had been in play for a thousand years created intoxicating suspense, but then she just-- is easily defeated? within a few pages? and nothing else is said about her plan? i really wanted more from her.

Alissa | 8 comments For TOG honestly I think Dorians character is a little underdeveloped. I haven’t finished it yet, but I wish we’d get more POVs and input from him. He has raw power and such an important role in the group yet he’s living in Aelins shadow it doesn’t make sense to me I want moree. I’d also love to know more about his magic

Azriel & Amren! Maas only mentions Azriel's background a few times throughout the series, but I feel like there is so much more to unpack!
I saw this one tiktok where someone annotated the entire series & hypothesized that Amren is a fallen angel - so I would have loved to have read more about her trying to remember where she came from.

You can call me Al | 11 comments The fae father of Jude Duarte in Cruel Prince. I loved the nuance in him, with loving his daughters, even those he “took in” (read “abducted”). And he’s wicked, and smart, but also kind’ish and you never could really guess what he was about to do.

And in the same book, Locke. I have a love-hate relationship with him cause he’s just so much drama and i live for it

Julia Kelsz | 2 comments For me it’s definitely Gavriel from Throne of Glass, Gwyn from ACOSF and obviously Mor, but in my opinion SJM tends to explain her characters’ arcs quite comprehensively and they’re usually very in your face with their motives and characteristics. Holly Black in The Cruel Prince on the other hand… i loved loved loved General Madoc, he’s such a complex character and his relations are insanely nuanced. Same with Queen Suren, oh I loved that girl and I wish I could learn more about her.

Jabotikaba | 41 comments There are so many such characters, but I'll only mention a few. Otherwise this post would be very long.
So this is Ghe from Chosen of Changeling by Gregory Keyes. It's probably a bit weird to call an undead assassin a compelling character, but there are plenty of girls out there who admire vampires and werewolves. Maybe I am not so strange after all.
All in all, I really wish Chosen of Changeling had been a diology instead of a trilogy, and that the author had written a third book in which Ghe would rise from the dead for the second time.
Kemlilin from Chimeras of Estmer by Heather Marsh. I really wish he had his POV. Hopefully the author will write a second book with more about him and the Stormy Pirates in general.
Also Jiriki from the Osten Ard books by Tad Williams and Morkeleb from the Winterlands books by Barbara Hambly.
