Battle Of The Mods Challenge - May 2023
Mod
For this challenge each mod will have a team, and teams will battle it out by reading books. Any book will count, but if you would like to earn your team some bonus points, read books which match the following descriptions -
1. Read a book that a mod has already read.
(You can find our bookshelves here - Sarah, Saar The Book owl, Maddie, Jenn, Danique)
2. Read a book from a series that a mod already has read a book from.
3. Read a book with all the letters 'B', 'A', 'T', 'T', 'L', and 'E' anywhere in your book's title, series, and author’s name.
4. Read a book with the letters 'M', 'O', and 'D' anywhere in your book's title, series, and author’s name.
5. There are 5 mods, so read a book with a 5 anywhere in the page count.
6. Read a book of a genre that a mod doesn't like to read.
(Genre's we don't like are - Chick Lit, Autobiography, War, Self Help, Erotica, Classics, Cozy Mystery, Anthology)
7. Maddie joined GOODREADS in 2011. Read a book published in 2011.
8. Jenn joined GOODREADS in 2012. Read a book published in 2012.
9. Sarah became a mod in 2013. Read a book published in 2013.
10. Saar became a mod in 2020. Read a book published in 2020.
11. Danique became a mod in 2022. Read a book published in 2022.
12. Sarah's birthday is in February. Read a book with an edition published in February, or with the word February in the book's title or series name.
13. Maddie birthday is in March. Read a book with an edition published in March, or with the word March in the book's title or series name.
14. Saar's birthday is in June. Read a book with an edition published in June, or with the word June in the book's title or series name.
15. Jenn's birthday is in July. Read a book with an edition published in July, or with the word July in the book's title or series name.
16. Danique's birthday is in August. Read a book with an edition published in August, or with the word August in the book's title or series name.
17. Jenn's house is Hufflepuff. Read a book which is set in a boarding school.
18. Danique is a fan of Caroline Peckham. Read a book by Caroline Peckham
19. Maddie likes playing computer games. Read a book tagged Gaming on its first page of tags.
20. Saar likes to read books Steampunk books. Read a book tagged Steampunk on its first page of tags.
21. Sarah enjoys dystopian books. Read a book tagged Dystopian on its first page of tags.
22. The 5th book that Danique read and added to Goodreads was written by Kiera Cass. Read a book by Kiera Cass
23. The 5th book Jenn read and added to Goodreads, was written by Laurell K. Hamilton. Read a book by Laurell K. Hamilton
24. The 5th book that Saar read and added to Goodreads, was written by Karen Miller. Read a book by Karen Miller
25. The 5th book that Maddie read and added to Goodreads, was written by Stephenie Meyer. Read a book by Stephenie Meyer
26. The 5th book that Sarah read and added to Goodreads, was written by Kami Garcia. Read a book by Kami Garcia
27. Sarah is #8 on the top reviewers list. Read a book with an 8 in the page count.
28. Maddie has 930 reviews. Read a book with a 9, 3 OR 0 in the page count.
29. Jenn has 1740 ratings on Goodreads. If we add those numbers up, we've got: 1+7+4+0=12=1+2=3. Read a book with an average rating between 3 and 3.99.
30. Danique has 367 reviews. Read a book with 3,6 OR 7 in the page count.
31. Saar is #69 in top reviews. If we add those numbers up, we get: 6+9=15=1+5=6. Read a book that is 6th in a series.
32. YA Buddy Reader's Corner has almost 17,000 members. Read a book with the word 'Club' in the title or series name, or tagged club
33. There are 1653 books on our group bookshelves. If we add those numbers up, we got: 1+6+5+3=15=6. Read the 6th book published by any author.
34. Read a book by an author with the name Sarah/Maddie/Saar/Danique/Jenn.
35. Read a book with a character with the name Sarah/Maddie/Saar/Danique/Jenn.
***Extra Info:***
- Descriptions can be re-used as many times as you would like.
- Bonus points will only be given once, even if your book matches more than one description.
- You may also use author's names, or the names of any editors, translators, narrators or illustrators. Please link to the edition you wish to use.
- You may use one edition for page count, and another edition to complete a description.
- Books can be used which don't fit the descriptions, you just won't earn any bonus points.

-A little bit of clarification: you can read for any task you want. It doesn't need to be a task about your mod.
F.e. If someone is in Team Danique, then this person can read a book for a task about Jenn.

- The Short Version -Points:
* Points will only be given for pages read in May.
Types of Books + Page Counts + Points:
* The minimum page counts for points are:
~ Adult/YA without illustrations = 50 pages
~ Middle-grade/children's books without illustrations = 75 pages
~ Manga, graphic novels, plays, poetry, and books written in verse = 150 pages
* Books may be added together to reach these minimums, as long as all books are under the minimum.
Reviews:
* A review or 4 detailed updates will be required for each book read.
* One book per comment on the review thread (unless adding books together).
* Maximum of 10 reviews per person in a day.
Re-Reads / Starting Again:
* Re-reads are allowed in this challenge.
Buddy Reads:
* Buddy reads must take place within this group to gain buddy read points.
* You must make at least 4 comments, including a reply to a buddy if possible.
* You may start up to 7 days before the start date, and 14 days after.
* GBRs also count.
Start Times:
* This challenge will begin and end on Goodreads time (PST) - 00:01 on May 1st 2023 PST, to 00:01 on June 1st 2023 PST.

★ Buddy reads MATCH your points score for pages, so a 300-page book (6pts) + buddy read (6pts) = 12 points.

(Bonus points for buddy reads will only be given if the buddy read has taken place in this group.)
★ If books are long enough to count on their own (50/75/150 pages) they will be scored on their own.
If you read two novellas of 80 pages each, you will receive a 1 in the books read column as together they are over 100 pages, and 1 page point for each (2 points total), as each book is individually long enough to earn points. This applies to all types of points.
* Individual bonus points will be awarded based on page count, the same as page points and buddy read points. So if you read a 300 page book that also completes a description, you will receive 6 page points and 6 bonus points ☺
Over 600 pages unillustrated book = 12 points
Over 600 pages unillustrated childrens/middle-grade book = 8 points
Over 600 pages illustrated/poetry etc. = 4 points

This challenge will be a team challenge. We will have a small number of teams, with a mixture of readers in each. When signing up please let us know whether you would like to be on a team, or whether you would like to go solo ☺
Teams should be posted by late April. If you sign-up after teams are posted, we will try to add you to a team, but we may not always be able to. You may be asked to join a waiting list. Please sign-up as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

This will be a team reading challenge which will run from May 1st 2023 to May 31st 2023. Results will be announced on June 1st 2023.
To complete this challenge, participants will be split into teams. Each team will read books of their own choice (which fit the challenge guidelines), and points will be awarded based on the length of the book, and whether you have buddy-read your book. You can also earn some bonus points by reading books which fit the challenge descriptions.
You may also choose to take part in this challenge as a solo participant ☺
