Calmgrove: Exploring the world of ideas through books (blog)

Ah, that's great to know! Embarrassingly, I have yet to read any Joan Aiken, but I've got the entire Armitage series AND the Felix Brooke trilogy staring at me from my bookshelves.. ;) It's clear I'm missing out.

Thanks for the mention! While I do like a range of genres I often review classic and occasionally contemporary fiction for younger readers, particularly late preteens / middle grade and teens – but for me good literature is good whatever age its intended audience.
And I apologise for only intermittently commenting here, as most of my literary energy goes into blogging and reposting reviews on Goodreads ...

Thanks, Michael, glad you appreciate it! I'm hoping to return to some more Aiken soon, both here and on my blog. Next year will be the centenary of Joan's birth.
Incidentally, if anybody hasn't come across it yet the official Joan Aiken site, joanaiken.com, maintained by her daughter Lizza, is one of the most attractive kidslit website I've seen.

It's never too late to start on some Aiken, but as always better sooner than later!

2024 is the Centenary, eh? Perhaps I'll do a special profile photo to commemorate that, then. Thanks for the tip-off! :)

If you're into all things Arthurian, you'll especially want to stop by! :) There are other books too, which overlap with my tastes - Chris covers lots of juvenile fantasy.
