Not bad. I didn't really notice anything standing out either way. There was one scene where Julia wants her corset tightened and I couldn't tell if she was wearing a chemise and petticoat underneath. I wish film makers would understand that at that time, corsets were for lifting and perhaps smoothing, akin to a bra and not for cinching waists to make them smaller. Sometimes costume designers choose certain costumes to prove a point, like in Autumn DeWilde's Emma. Augusta Elton wears a bright orange Victorian monstrosity. They knew it wasn't right for 1816 but wanted to prove a point. I didn't get that at all with Malcolm. Everything was just there. Muted?
Mr. M's List is just pretty much all around average and compared to everything else put out in the category over the last 3 years, it's GOOD to be average. I'll take average over Sanditon, Bridgerton and Persuasion any day. Do I want to watch it again? No not really. I read both versions of the book. If it's on TV and I have nothing do to at the moment, I might sit and watch some of it. I'm glad I got it from the library for free though and didn't pay for it.
I didn't mind the color blind casting. It worked until the hero randomly said something in Yoruba.
There was no chemistry between Selina and Mr. Malcolm though.
I would recommend this over anything with Jane Austen's name slapped on it. (Hard pass on Persuasion and Sanditon; Emma was funny at least).
