Are there any threads you want but don't want to create?
Are there any threads that are much too hectic and need deleting/restarting/tidying up?
What else can we do for you? Do let me know here!

Brian Foster (bwfoster78) Emily,

I wouldn't mind reading more blog posts from the people who post here, but, when I scan the threads for bloggers and current posts, there are so many topics that don't interest me that it's hard to find the ones that do.

Perhaps you could come up with some way to categorize that forum? Separating book blogs from writer's blogs might be a good start. Separting writer's blogs aimed at readers from those aimed at other writers might be good as well.

Just a thought.

Thanks.

Brian

Oh that's a great idea Brian! I shall get to it.

Katie (bookmouse424) I agree with Brian. There is always a lot of posting, which is great, but it is very hard to wade through to find what is interesting to me. Maybe organize the latest post by types of book reviews (romance, fiction, non fiction, ya, mystery, etc.). I am usually looking for a specific type of review to find new books in certain categories.

Brian Foster (bwfoster78) Wow! People agreeing with me? Unprecedented :)

You have my vote on that also.

How might we do that for blog posts. As mine is eclectic I fear having some not fit in any divisions for the bloggers.

I've added a section for "other" blogs if that helps :)
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Also would it be really unprofessional if I'm uncertain what G+ is?

Sorry. You have a G+ button to recommend it there on your website. So I thought you might also have a page. Since I do I thought I'd add you to my circles and maybe share some of your posts - if you had some.

I'm one who has been putting notices of my blog entries. I try to just list the ones of interest to writers. I see you have 3 listed for blogs now, but they all have the same title (Read this first). I got the impression that you intend each blogger to start a new title under one of the other three. Is that right?

That's true - make yourself a thread under the author, reader or other blog folders, which ever one it fits best.

Jim Vuksic Emily,

Suggestion: Please consider listing the genres in alphabetical order. This is a common practice in other discussion groups. It makes it easier for a reader to quickly locate a specific genre of interest during a cursory search.

Thanks again for all the time and effort you are expending toward improving the discussion group.

Hey Jim, I did consider that but the folders actually take forever to reorder. However I'll be sure to do it when I have the time

Edit: Took a while but I did that for you :)

Emily,

I really did not anticipate such a quick response or action. Thank you. Not something that happens very often in today's world.

Thank you very much.

message 27: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 460 comments Okay so I am beyond glad to see some clean up done to this group, it was definitely needed! However I would suggest two threads that could be resurrected from the archives.

First would be one of the many Book Trailer threads, where authors and bloggers can post and share their videos and channels. I know of at least three and heck I made one that I was going to bring back but couldn't find.

-So my suggestion is we should have one folder for being able to post trailers and channels.

Second, one of the few threads I used on here was something called, "Your Latest Blog Post" or "New Blog Post?" something along those lines. I enjoyed it because it was a way to post my latest articles without having to make a thread to just stick it anywhere. Sometimes blog posts and articles don't have a specific place to go hence the reason authors tend to spam by throwing it in a random folder.
-I would suggest bringing it back or creating something similar as I know Brian had said he enjoys reading peoples blog posts so that would definitely be something to consider.

Lastly,
Just throwing this one out there but perhaps consider deleting no longer relevant or valid threads, a super clean if you will. I noticed you archived all the junk and I also know it is time consuming and annoying to go through every thread and delete what may or may not be necessary. I am a mod for another group and we did this and while it was a pain it made things better.
-Suggestion here would be to skim and find what seems important or worth bringing back and whatever isn't you delete or keep archived and just make a mention in another thread if your looking for a certain thread that's gone to look it up and it's most likely archived.

Wow, that was alot lol. I hope I didn't offend or seem demanding, just throwing my two cents in. I have always enjoyed this group which is why i'm still around and I'm glad to see it becoming lively and organized again! (:

Emily V (xemilyx) | 687 comments Mod
Thanks for all the suggestions Justin!
1) I shall create a thread in this section (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...) for book trailers. Everything I put in the archives goes there because of extreme inactivity or too much offtopic chat. However, you guys are free to make your own threads or bring back old ones you want, I may neaten up their locations etc, but it's still fine.

2) Ah you have requested something that was already on my to-do list here, the blog post thread got way too crowded so I was planning to restart a weekly one so that they don't get half so big - you post about what you've done in the right thread then a different thread the next week.

3) As much as the OCD mod inside me wants to delete all of the archived stuff I simply do not have the time to get rid of thousands of expired giveaways and old promotions. It would genuinely take me hours and hours alone - trust me, I already deleted a couple of hundred.

Thank you for your suggestions, this group is as much yours as it is mine :)

Edit:

Here is the latest blog post threads: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Book trailers: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Let me know if I missed anything.

Noorilhuda wrote: "Emily hi, isn't it time to either pick a new traditional-pub book or self-pub author book as display / group read? Just a suggestion. Or are we waiting for June-July 2016?"

It was definitely time but I was being a busy inactive mod and that shall be my first duty now I'm back!

message 33: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 460 comments Alright so I did this back in March of 2015 and I'll gladly do it again, make suggestions on how to improve the group and what can be done around here.

The first thing I'd suggest as the mod has already brought up is we need more mods. Emily cannot do it all herself and it's good to have a few mods in a group as it helps keep things in order and helps maintain the group. Of course the right people need to be mods and those who will not get drunk with power. But yes I'd suggest a few more mods to help stabilize the group.

Second I'd think there needs to be another clean up. It's definitely a lot better than it used to be the first time i suggested this before just a quick scan of the folders to make sure there is't any old old folders that no one comments in or get rid of any spam folders. I'd also suggest browsing the archives to see if there are any topics that have got hot recently and are being discussed more and bring them back into the fold to be discussed again.

Finally, while I don't participate in them I'd suggest a group read for those who like those as a way to bring the group closer and get things a bit more lively in here.

Julie Round | 10 comments I am still finding it difficult to discover discussions that I joined in with in any group and I can't get used to having the latest posts at the end ,not the beginning.
If I could just settle on one group it might help and sorry if I don't ride a scooter - or is that the wrong mod!

Carolina Malfettano (malfe) Hey, if the task is to tell what I would like to do in this group, I would say that I like the idea of sharing ideas and discusions and about things that i or other post. So here is my blog:

message 36: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 460 comments I'd like to see a few things:

1. More Moderators
2. A folder or thread to ask more questions on books & blogs
3. A Resource folder for blogging tips
4. More interacting and activity by moderator and members
5. More threads for authors
