I would like to find a series similar to A Court of Thorns and Roses. But the grittier the better. I prefer endings, even at turning points in the novel(s) that are not necessarily the live happy ever after outcome. I am not asking for tragedy for tragedy's sake, but rather where it makes sense it should be there to gut punch you.

A Ruin of Roses

May just fit what you’re looking for. Though the last book gets a bit too much on the rutting though. Read the sample pages before deciding.

I'm not sure if this book would have enough romance for you as the romance is slow build over the three books.
