Elaine Rucki (elaine_rucki) | 26 comments Someone received my book as a gift and tried to leave a review on Thursday night. It seemed to go through successfully, but it still hasn't actually shown up on the amazon book product page. Do non-purchaser reviews need to be manually reviewed by amazon before they get posted?
Is there usually a long delay before reviews get posted?

they have to accept the gift first and then like read a few pages ... was it kindle or paperback?

Mellie (mellie42) | 644 comments Firstly, people need to spend USD $50 a year in the Amazon to be eligible to leave a review. Is it possible they don't meet the threshold?

Secondly, Amazon might decline the review as gifting a book establishes a relationship between you and the reviewer. Associated persons are not allowed to review your book.

There is a delay at times. Some of my reviews get published within a few minutes of submission while others can take up to 2 weeks for approval. If Amazon showed your reviewer that the review was successfully submitted, then there's nothing to do but wait. They will be intimated by email when their review is live. This is the same for reviews of purchased or gifted products.

Just ensure that the reviewer declared that they had received the book as a gift and their review is voluntary. This is mandatory as per FTC guidelines.

If they hadn't met the $50 purchase requirement, they wouldn't have been able to leave a review in the first place.

Rosh ~catching up slowly~ (roshreviews) Why is your GR account still showing you as a user, btw? Haven't you added your book to the GR database yet? Let me know if you need any help in this respect. I am a GR librarian as well.

Elaine Rucki (elaine_rucki) | 26 comments Actually, the review finally showed up today, so I guess it was just a delay. I'm pretty sure he uses amazon a lot, so the threshold probably wasn't an issue for him. It was a paperback copy that he was gifted. He mentioned right in the review that he received a copy as a gift.
Thanks everyone!

Rosh, what do you mean? I thought I had my book registered with GR.

I can see your book on GR here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

But when I click on the author's name from this link, it is taking me to this page - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
and it says, 'This author isn't on GR.'
But here you are, with a general reader profile - https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/1....

So if you want your user profile to be shown as that of an author rather than of a reader, you need to click on the below link and fill in the necessary details. Hope this helps.

Arch | 210 comments I have been with Amazon since 1998 and I hate that in order to leave a review, I have had to spent $50 or more within the last 12 months. Monday, I have gone to Amazon to review a book that I have gotten for free from them and I couldn’t. I haven’t shopped at Amazon since last year’s prime sale. It’s all good. For years, I have gotten free books from them. If I can’t review the books on there, I am not going to worry. I can always review the book on here.

I agree!!! For any many times as I leave reviews for books and other products, I wish Amazon would do something for us. :)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 2274 comments It may take a few days. I've noticed this with one of my books. Someone told me they had left a review on Amazon and it didn't appear until a week later. So yeah, Amazon lags I guess, who'd have thought? lol.
