Margaret Ruppert Nancy Drew was driving down the road, when she saw a child in the middle of the road about to get hit by a very fast moving van. The child ran out of the way of the car, and was injured. Nancy learned from the child’s aunts that the child’s name was Judy. Judy’s aunts also told Nancy about a man named Josiah Crowley and a will that he had left to the Topham family; a very wealthy family that had taken care of Josiah when he was dying. Nancy felt bad for Judy’s aunt’s, because they had almost no money, but she had to leave once Judy’s wounds were tended to. She went home and told her father about the will. Her father was told that there was a later will that was lost. Nancy decided that she would be the one to find the later will. While on her search to find the will, she met people that were close to Josiah. These people included the Hoover sisters, Abby Rowen, and The Mathews Brothers. These people all felt betrayed by Josiah Crowley because the first will he had written gave them nothing even though they too took care of him and were close friends and relatives of his. When Nancy went to Abby Rowen’s house, she found out that Ms. Rowen, a frail, old woman, had fallen down the stairs, and hurt her hip and ankle. Nancy started questioning Ms. Rowen about the will and Ms. Rowen said something about a clock with a moon on it that was Josiah’s. She went to the Topham’s house because they owned all of Josiah’s things and they most likely had the clock. Nancy talked to them about tickets for a dance that she was selling, all part of a plan to get inside the Topham’s house, and they took the tickets because they wanted to meet people who were rich like them. She asked about the clock on the mantle, and they said that that wasn’t Josiah’s clock. They did say something about Moon Lake Campground, and how the clock was there. She immediately went to Moon Lake, and she went to the Tophams old cabin, which they appeared to be moving out of because there was a moving van and people moving Josiah Crowley’s furniture. She went inside the house to look for the clock. The movers saw her and locked her in the closet. She soon realized that they were thieves and that they were stealing the furniture. Once she got out of the closet, she went to the nearest police station to report the theft. Once she reported the theft, she followed the tracks of the moving van until she came to an inn. She saw a barn and tried the doors to see if they were locked. They were unlocked and when she entered the barn, she saw the thieve’s moving van. She tried to find the keys to the back of the truck, and found that they were under the drivers side floor mat. She unlocked the back of the van and found the clock. She found information about the will inside and found out that the will would give away twenty percent of Mr. Crowley’s money to the Hoover sisters, twenty percent to the Mathew’s brothers, and ten percent to Abby Rowen. The Topham’s got nothing from the later will.

Margaret Ruppert There are three literary devices used in Nancy Drew: The Secret of the Old Clock. The first one is imagery, which are images printed in a book that are used to provide a reference of what some important events in the book could look like. The second one is point of view, most commonly known as POV. The POV in this book is Third Person which when a narrator tells you the story. The last literary device is called foreshadowing. Foreshadowing is when the author gives you a hint of what is going to happen.

Margaret Ruppert The theme of Nancy Drew and the Secret of the Old Clock is: Be helpful because you might make some friends.

The theme relates to the character Nancy Drew because Nancy is a kind girl because she does everything in her power to help people in need like Abby Rowen, and the Hoover sisters.

The theme relates to the plot by explaining why she helps the relatives and friends of Josiah Crowley by finding the will.
