Must read with the actual book in your hand or do you prefer to read eBooks?

I love books, there's nothing like having a book in your hands but I read almost all my books now on my phone.

I used to be absolutely, 100% against eBooks. How could you want to read off of a screen when holding a book feels so right. And don't tell me you've never stuck your nose between the pages and breathed in deeply. That smell is intoxicating. With that being said, I purchased an iPad a couple of years ago. I hate to admit it. I'm hooked. Its so nice to read with the lights off and if you're like me and are always wanting to look up the meaning of that cool word some author just used, well you're just a click away. Plus, it makes it really easy to go back and forth between Goodreads and the book. It doesn't mean that I still don't read books. It does mean that they both have their advantages.

It depends on what formats are available. I prefer audiobooks, but if I can only get the ebook I will settle for that. Then there is one of my favorite books, Floating Dragon by Peter Straub, which is only in print, so I have a paperback copy of it.

At home - books! On the go - kindle all the way

I much prefer holding a 'real' book in my hands ...especially when its a brand new book .. I love that smell! I do use my kindle ... mostly for NetGalley..and some of amazon's freebies, plus a few authors here that want their book reviewed. There's room in my life for both.

I use both but prefer 'real' books :)

DEAD TREE BOOKS for me. I've never "read" an eBook and don't ever intend to. Well, that's not entirely true. I do have some .pdf versions of books on my computers, but I also have the real books in my home.

I don't do audio books, either. Mom used to read to me when I was little. I outgrew that, though.

I can't give up books, love browsing bookstores. I do like reading off my Ipad while in bed but I fall asleep much quicker while reading an ebook as opposed to the real thing.

Well hello everyone! I just joined your group a day or two ago and thought I'd make my first post here. :-)

I love real books... the kind made of paper. It will always be my first choice, but I did recently download the kindle app to my laptop. I've read one small book that way and have a few other books to go. But I don't find the same pleasure in reading that way. There isn't the feedback of pages turning and seeing the progress through the book.
And the huge pile of books (200? 300? I'm not sure) sitting in the spare bedroom closet will give proof to my love of the real paper copy of a book. Nothing else like it.

I buy hardcovers, read free ebooks. Prefer the book but can't resist free.

I prefer books, I only read a couple on my laptop, But it wasn't very enjoyable. Love watching books on my shelf. I don't even have an e-reader, so..

No contest, I way prefer ebooks, have a thousand on my kindle, and have several different ways to read digitally. That's not to say I don't love DTBs, I love bookstores and all things paper, and have my all my beloveds in paper to look at...like Scrooge and his money. But ebooks are the only way to go...in MY book.

I love them both. I have allergies that keep me from owning too many books so I rely greatly on my public library. The proble is if the reader before wore perfume or scented hand lotion it's enough to trigger my allergies, enter the glory of the eBook.

I love all books, old and new. My favorite place to go after a long day of oral surgery is Barnes and Noble ! I get my Caramel Machioto and browse the leather bound section for older books. I just got H.P. Lovecraft's Great Tails of Horror!

I love reading and the e-book satisfy my desire to read it now, but the desire to own books by authors I enjoy or to own a series that I liked usually have me buying books either hard cover or paperback.

I never thought I'd love e-books but I really do. I do still like reading a paperback as well but most of all my purchases are e-books now.

I love spending hours just scanning shelves and reading a few pages, and eventually leaving with a nice pile of books. I love a local used book shop in my area too. So much fun to see what books came in since my last visit.

I do too. My BF got me the Kindle in 2011 because he said We had no more room for books! lol. I still keep getting them though..lol

Maresa, I have had that problem with some books that are in a charity bin at my local store. There have been a couple that I wanted to buy but didn't because they were covered in cat hair. I'd be sneezing throughout and it wouldn't be worth it.

I use my credit card rewards points to get Barnes and Noble gift cards. It's perfect for the books I can't get in my book club or short stories in the series that I read.

Both for me, but I mainly do the Ebook.

I just can't do e-books... Reading is an experience for the senses! The smell of the book, the feel of the pages Under your fingers, the different writings and fonts, the noise of the pages, the taste of the ink... scratch that last one :P
But yeah, I prefer having to make space in my bag for 2 books than having an e-reader

I use both because sometimes you really need the smell and feel of the printed adventure!

I still read an actual book. I have a few that I picked up when Borders went out of business. But I read a lot on my kindle.

I love my real books! Yes, I have a kindle and nook (don't like the nook) but I would much rather have a real book. They feel more personal! And I love how real books look on my bookshelf(s)(s)(s)...! All I got to do is look to see which one I want to read next or again. I even went as far as to make fake books so I'd know what was on the kindle. (And I really hate starting a book and have the battery die.) But when you see a book that you want to read for only 2.99 or less, can't help but to buy! I WILL NOT spend over 3.99 for an e-book! I cannot justify spending any more for something that isn't real. I visit my local used books stores, and BAM to check out their clearance! I've got a lot of hardcovers for $6 or less! I AM A BOOK HORDER and PROUD!!!

I will read both, but I find that I read ebooks much more quickly than a regular book.

I'm a book hoarder too Billie...lol That's why my boyfriend finally got me a kindle...lol he said there was no more room for books...

I do find that my eyes start to hurt a lot faster with the kindle.

I make room for books, lol! I have at least one bookshelf in every room in the house, and it's a big old farm house. I see myself reading books on the kindle faster also, and I also tend to eye strain and headaches more with it than a real book. And finishing a book on the kindle doesn't give me that same feeling of enjoyment as I get with a reak book.

Love my kindle, but I still pick up a book now and then.

Absolutely intoxicating. But then books don't have the dictionary feature that my iPad does and I really do love highlighting and looking up words that I don't know the meaning. lol.

I much prefer a printed book... and I'm kind of picky in that regard. I don't like yellowed or old smelling pages (however I'll still make do with this if I have to). I like the pages to be white, clean and have that "new book" smell. I like to turn the pages and sneak a peak ahead if I so choose.

I'll definitely read on my Kindle app, but only because it's convenient if I'm waiting somewhere or if I'm at work (lol.. can't be seen reading an actual book at work, but no one minds me on my phone).

I love my kindle fire, but I still pick up a real book occasionally.

My nook was the best investment I ever made. I can read books much more quickly with my nook than I can a regular book.

I rather prefer to reading a book. Although being more practical an e-book nowadays ( carrying to work or while you're going), i love taking a book and keeping it in my shelves. There are old good traditions which can't finish...in my opinion.

I have changed my tune about e-readers and e-books lately. I just got myself this little B&N Nook Color. It's VERY COOL! I think I've been assimilated into the ranks of e-reading borgs. ;)

I think I am buying myself an e-reader for Christmas, just to have a way to read e-books. ALso I am going to be studying abroad so it's useful to have it.

Monica, the one I bought was a refurbished model from a seller on eBay. Check the seller's feedback and read the details of what he/she is selling. I got my Nook Color for just $44.95 w/ free shipping. It was pristine; not a mark on it. Works like a little champ. This thing was $200 when new. Pretty good deal, I thought. :)

Wow, what a great deal! I love my kindle fire, but still read an occasional paperback.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking on buying a Kobo, because it reads pretty much everything. It is a little expansive though.
