Apologies, turns out I accidentally uploaded a previous draft of the task that was missing the wording about name formats when I put this up. I've corrected it now, so hopefully that provides some clarification.

the name has to match exactly so unless the name is Simonverse it wouldn't work

Book A:Defending Britta Stein (Liam Taggart & Catherine Lockhart #6)
Book B: The Book Lover's Bucket List: A Tour of Great British Literature by Caroline Taggart
The book page on the second book also lists Tracy Chevalier but says (Forward) after her name.
Caroline Taggart is new to me but Tracy Chevalier is not. Is it a problem that she is credited with the Forward?

Your examples show [forename or initials or honorific + surname]
What about a series name that doesn't include any surname? I'm looking at The Secret Adversary. It is marked as Tommy & Tuppence Mysteries #1
Would either Tommy OR Tuppence work?

let me confirm with the moderators on this one - i believe its ok but will let you know...

the name in the series needs to have 2 parts - first/last etc - so those would not work - they are only singular - sorry!

Still clarifying... so, honorics DO count as a name. Such as your Mrs. Murphy example.

Yes because with the honorific the position of the name is clear

since you have to use the primary series and it only has two books - sorry this doesn't work.

They don’t appear to have children on the shelf list so they are good

For option A I will be using The Adoration of Jenna Fox
for Option B: i would like to use Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape by Jenna Miscavige Hill and Lisa Pulitzer
I didnt realize this book had a second author when I first mapped out this task

Unfortunately the task specifies a single author for book B - sorry!

Book A: The Nightingale (Isabelle Rossignol - character)
Book B: In Five Years (Bella Gold - character)
Thanks for clarifying!!

Sometimes when I get in a reading funk and go looking for new authors, I pick a series that I’ve been reading where there is a character’s name in the series name and then I try to find a new to me author that matches either the first or last characters name. My task this season is based on that.
For this task – you will read 2 books – one from Book A and one from Book B. The books MUST have a combined minimum page count of 501 pages and Book B MUST be a new-to-you author.
No Children/Middle-Grade MPG
No Graphic Novels
Book A Read a book that has a characters name(s) in the series title – you may read any book in the series, but it must have at least 3 published books.
The character name(s) should appear as "Forename Surname", "Initials Surname" or "Title Surname"
Examples: Until Proven Guilty (J.P Beaumont #1)
Last Bus to Woodstock (Inspector Morse #1)
The Wire in the Blood, (Tony Hill & Carol Jordan #2)
The series title will be used as it appears on the book page - for example, although Blood Heir might also display as World of Kate Daniels, #13 on a Goodreads list, the individual book entry lists it as Aurelia Ryder, #1, so the latter should be used.
Book B Read a book by a single author where the author’s name (first or last) matches EXACTLY in both spelling and position, the character name for book A.
Required: state the character name you are using and that the author is new-to-you.
Notes:
a) If there are two character names in the series you may pick either one to use.
b) If the character uses initials – the initials of your author must match exactly
c) If the character uses an honorific or title – ignore that and use the name that is present.
Examples:
Book A: Among the Ruins (Rachel Getty & Esa Khattak #3)
Book B: Seraphina (Rachel Hartman) – Rachel for Rachel Getty; New to Me Author
Book A: Until Proven Guilty (J.P Beaumont #1)
Book B: The Perfect Wife (J.P. Delaney)
Book A: Wish You Were Here (Mrs. Murphy #1)
Book B: If the Shoe Fits (Julie Murphy) – Murphy for Murphy; New to Me Author
