                                ~March Mini Challenge~

This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players.

Saint Patrick's Day, is a cultural and religious celebration occurring annually on 17 March, the death date of the most commonly-recognised patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick (c. AD 385–461).

In order to help celebrate this Irish tradition, you team is invited to participate in this optional mini challenge:

Task 1 (5 books)
Leprechauns are up to some mischief. Help clean up their mess by:

♔ Reading books that spell out the word CLEAN (Spell it out rules below)

Task 2 (4 books)
Four leaf clovers are hard to come by. You can find one by:

♔ Reading a book with 160-250 pages
♔ Reading a book with 251-450 pages
♔ Reading a book with 451-550 pages
♔ Reading a book with more than 550 pages

Task 3 (3 books)
Have a pint of Guinness with your neighbours by:

♔ Reading a book that a team member from a different team has read and rated 4 stars of higher (tip: go to another team thread and ask them for their favourite books!)
♔ Reading a book that a team member from a different team has read in February 2015 (tip: check their spreadsheets)
♔ Reading a book that has a character name which is the same as a a team member from a different team

Task 4 (3 books)
Join the parade by:

♔ Reading a book with a predominantly green cover
♔ Reading a book with a predominantly orange cover
♔ Reading a book with a predominantly white cover

Task 5 (2 books)
Reminisce about the old country by:

♔ Reading a book set in Ireland
♔ Reading a book by an Irish author

Task 6 (4 books)
Enjoy a traditional meal by going on a scavenger hunt and finding these words in the title, or text of your book (plurals are also acceptable):

♔ Potato
♔ Cabbage
♔ Bacon
♔ Bread

◈ For each task completed, your team receives a "March Bonus" of being able to chose one card in any hand for the duration of the challenge (Feb 1 - April 30) that you can claim double points for
◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands
◈ You can't use the same book for more than one task, or component of a task. For example, if you have a book by an Irish author that is also set in Ireland, you can only use it for one of those components of Task 5.
◈ Books read between march 14 and 31 count for this mini challenge
◈ The usual book length rules apply, Books must be more than 160 pages in length and Children's books and Graphic Novels can not be used unless by word count they can be verified as more than 40,000 words using arbookfind.com
◈ Team spreadsheets will be updated with a March Mini Challenge tab so that you can track your books and claim your tasks
◈ Spell it out rules are: Spell out the word(s) using the first letter in the book’s title or series name, the first letter in the author’s first or last name, or the first letter of a character’s first, last, or nick-name. If the first letter of a title starts with ‘A’, ‘An’, ‘The’, etc., you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your word.

Laura First question...
Can I use the name "Helen" for player's name NancyHelen for task 3?

I love this mini challenge! :) Quick question, I assume that in task 3 we should read a book that a team member from a different team has read in 2015, not 2014? And once we read all 21 books that's all the bonus points we can get, right? For example, if I read another book that happens to fit task 3, I can't claim double points again.

Emma | 757 comments DO we need to do the tasks in order?

For the mini-challenge... Either the 251-449 or 450-549 length categories for task 2. The version I 'read' (audiobook--Grave Peril) lists 454 pages, but most others are in the upper 300s. Print version has what could be described as a predominantly orange cover (task 4), but the audiobook has a different cover. Not sure which one should/can count.

Judge's ruling?

Cinthia (cinthiah) | 308 comments I'm assuming we're supposed to do February of 2015 in task 3, since that's when we were doing the spreadsheets?

Oops, sorry, should be 2015

Hi - I'd just go with whatever version it is you are reading for the page count and colour

Sarah | 1012 comments Please could we have a ruling on The Serpent on the Crown (Amelia Peabody, #17) by Elizabeth Peters - is it orange enough to count for orange cover? Thanks.

Jennifer J. | 561 comments For the words (bread, bacon, cabbage, potato) do we need a page number or other identifying information?

I just got a second opinion (my husband!) and he said it is orange, so yes it can count ;)

Just put the sentence (or with audiobooks the approximate part) in the reason column
