Cheryl (cherylllr) self-care, comfort, mood-booster...

What do you do or read when you're feeling hurt, sad, frustrated, poorly? Or what do you recommend?

There are several books I like to read passages from because they make me feel good. One is Gone With the Wind, the scenes at Twelve Oaks before war is declared. Another is Blackout by Connie Willis which is immersive and a great escape.

Sometimes when I feel glum, I dive into it and read something sad to get some of those feelings out. I remember Graham Greene's The End of the Affair was a great read during the winter blues.

Cheryl (cherylllr) That's an interesting idea, to 'dive into' the blue feeling. I'll have to think on that.

Lizz Taylor | 218 comments My go to books when I am in the dumps is a good paranormal cute cozy murder mystery. Extra points for talking animals and if the lead character is suspected of the murder and causes more mayhem by trying to solve the mystery. It is a formula to be sure but easy to read and usually has a cute ending that turns my frown upside down.

Cheryl (cherylllr) You make them sound so appealing!

Cheryl (cherylllr) I like most works by Michael Perry, Matt Haig, and Becky Chambers. And favorite children's classics like The Secret Garden, The Phantom Tollbooth, and The Princess and the Goblin. They all have characters that seem real, as in both flawed and brave... and they all incorporate lots of hope that most people are basically good people and the future can be better than the present.

Lizz Taylor | 218 comments I love Matt Haig and T.J. Klune. The Secret Garden was my favorite growing up and of course The Phantom Tollbooth is a classic.
