Ellen | 3511 comments Therapist Lori Gottlieb really caught my attention with this book. She tells the story of 5 patients: a high-pressure Hollywood writer, a newlywed diagnosed with terminal cancer, a senior citizen ready to end it all and a young woman who is the life of the party with alcohol and hookups a constant occurrence. The fifth patient is Lori herself. A single mother of an 8-year-old son, Lori had been in a long relationship with a man destined to be her husband in the near future. Until he wasn't. She was blindsided by the breakup and deeply depressed. A friend suggested that 'maybe you should talk to someone', so the therapist found her own therapist. Gottlieb is frank about her own sessions with "Wendell" and what she eventually learned about herself. Her sessions with her own patients are so interesting and one of them actually made me cry. This is such a heartfelt book with life lessons we all can learn from. I highly recommend it.
