Wasn't lily also at fault? And wasn't lily culprit too?

Ryle got angry everytime after the first time because of atlas's existence in lily's life. Wasn't it a ridiculous thing that lily bought the journals and magnets to her new home? Wasn't it necessary for lily to get rid of everything from her past when she knew ryle couldn't tolerate atlas's existence in lily's life when atlas and ryle fought for the first time?was ryle alone responsible for whatsoever happened?

noo??? i don't think youre required to shed your past just to satisfy a grown man's temper imo.

especially because Lily's had a traumatic past (and those journals were from that time), it makes sense that she wants to hold on to those very vulnerable and valuable diary entires.

There’s no justification behind abuse, period. Ryle’s character, regardless of his past trauma, is an abuser. The portrayal of him is fairly spot on, but the writing that tries to downplay what he does honestly made me sick.

That said, Lily is an instigator. Not to say she deserved the treatment, because no one does, but the fact that she’s shocked? Blows my mind.

Lily and Ryle were toxic from day one. Two broken people, neither completely honest upfront, is never going to lead to success. Then again, the entire relationship was a little too coincidental/predictable from the get go. I felt as though the abuse was added just to make this book not so dull. As bad as it sounds, if you take away the abuse, this book is a drag.

Exactly, I couldn't agree more with you @Faria

I don't know who I should call jerk ,the writer or the Lily character.
Everything in book doesn't make any sense. Lily character has 365 degree mood swings. It feels like 365 people from different reality.

Somewhere she mesmerized by Ryle. Makes him angel. Somewhere she is in so love with him. Somewhere makes him horrible, that she can't stand by him.

It became triangle love story.
She does everything to jealous Ryle. Go back to Atlas.
She admits nothing could happen if she wouldn't bring Atlas part everywhere.

I feel so disgusted in part where Lily admits she is still in love with Atlas and Ryle have no right to judge even if he finds out Atlas and her in same bad. Like wtf dude??

This story is totally narcissistic gaslighting. That's why most hormonal teens so in love with this book that they rated 5 on 5. Even it's stupid sequel got Large parcentage of 5 stars.

@way i felt like a wife can have feelings for other man being in a marriage but the husband has no right to express his objections, if he does it gonna be BREAK the CYCLE! Ryle asked her to clear everything after the restaurant fight with atlas, even he was ready to give on her if he wants to be with atlas. Lily said she only wants Ryle. So why the fuck didn't she thow everything related to atlas? And clear everything to Ryle that day? This is pure feminism. Even we can see Ryle only abused her on the atlas thing nothing else. When he pushed her from the stairs he was actually walking away from her but it was her who actually ran behind him and in anger he pushed her. It was actually an accident. We can't say that ryle did it on purpose. Even that last night Ryle wasn't fully on his senses i'm not defending his abuse but he wasn't in his senses as he took a lot of scotch. By running to atlas in the end lily proved it that ryle actually was right about his insecurity regarding atlas. This girl lily would have cheated on ryle or left ryle if atlas didn't lied that he has a girlfriend. And in the sequel lily wasn't even paying head to emerson she was more into having sex with atlas. She had sex with him as a minor it wasn't pointed out anywhere. I mean it was pure feminism. I would anyday choose ryle over lily because he loves only one at a time. And not to say or deny Ryle loved her the most but she instigated Ryle the most to break him and break her also. During the whole labor ryle was so claim he didn't deserved that trauma on his daughter's birth moment.

this is what i think: atlas was clearly a special person who she couldn't just forget, much more than the fact that he used to be her boyfriend. i do think lily should've told ryle about the encounter with atlas as the restuarant, although i can understand why she wouldn't, of course, it's difficult to do that. if lily really thought ryle was the one, she would've opened up about her past to him, so maybe, just maybe there was a small part of her that still had feelings for atlas.

No not at all
Keeping your journals with you as your childhood memory is not wrong at all.
Atlas was her first love and not just that he even had so many weird memories with lily. And i think that ryle should actually enjoy reading her past he should enjoy reading about her first love. Instead of trying to rape her he should have talked to her about all this just like a normal amd nice person.

The first time Ryle pushed Lily wasn't because of Atlas. He burned his hand and she was drunk laughing. Yes, that was insensitive of her but she definitely did not deserve to be pushed!

@Faria- So you're saying because he was intoxicated it was okay that he pushed her down a whole flight of stairs. She had a hard time talking about her past ofc not right off the bat she's not going to tell Ryle everything, she was telling him little by little. Marriages should start off slow, learn something new abt your partner day by day. She shared many memories with Atlas she can't just forget everything she went through with him. And honestly, how can you say Lily pushed Ryle to break? It makes no sense you can't push someone to abuse you whether he was hurt or not abt Lily's actions hitting/abusing someone is not the way to deal with it. What she did when Emerson was born was the right thing it was valid, she wanted him to see his fault, she wanted him to know the reason behind the divorce, and in the end, he did, because it's valid. Would he want his daughter growing up to see her mother being abused, that would js teach her it's okay. And not everything was made abt Atlas when They were drunk and he burned his hand she was also intoxicated and laughing and then he pushed her! What excuse do have for that one

No. Is it the job of the person being abused to try and prevent future abuse from the abuser?
If you answer yes, then that's making it about them, not about the abuser. And we know better, that when someone is abusive, it's about them.
It's a contentious issue. Certainly people being abused know not to provoke an abuser, but having keepsakes is private and not provocation.
