YA Book Club 2025 (paused) discussion

Hi, this is the discussion topic for week 1's progress with our June book, Last One to Die.

This topic can include spoilers up to the end of chapter 7, so only continue reading this post if you have read up to this point.

I’m having so much fun with this book! It’s a reread for me, and I’d forgotten how tense and gory it is. Loving the interwoven legends too!

I'm loving the re-read of this. the Springheel Jack mythology is great, and all the attacks mounting up is adding a lot of tension, even though it's peppered with a bit of romance.

It is my first time reading Last One To Die and I have to admit that I'm really enjoying it so far- the story is fast paced and enthralling. Secondly, the thriller aspect comes straight out of the gate with poor Niamh witnessing murder and mayhem.
I know it's early days but this could well work out to being a 5 star read for me- fingers crossed!.

Oh wow, just caught up with the first section and what a place to end! I can't believe she didn't notice the other 2 girls looked like her though. The fact that Sara took her room and Tasha was wearing her new cardigan seems significant too.
So far this is really easy to read, despite all the gory murder. I'm really enjoying the book and really glad I managed to get a copy to join in this month.

I totally agree with everyone and have nothing to add! I really like it so far and am excited to see what happens next. I'm looking forward to the next section.

Joining in late. Boy this one starts with a bang and keeps the tension up. With the mythology it’s giving me Mina vibes. I’m liking the characters that are still alive. Poor others we barely got chance to say hi to.

I'd forgotten how tense this one is, and I always appreciate a good helping of mythology.

Ahh I hope so! I really enjoyed this on my first read and I'm having just as much fun this time.
