Nancy (paper_addict) It’s time for a giveaway!

Julie McElwain is giving away one physical copy of her book A Murder in Time.

A Murder in Time (Kendra Donovan, #1) by Julie McElwain

Beautiful and brilliant, Kendra Donovan is a rising star at the FBI. Yet her path to professional success hits a speed bump during a disastrous raid where half her team is murdered, a mole in the FBI is uncovered and she herself is severely wounded. As soon as she recovers, she goes rogue and travels to England to assassinate the man responsible for the deaths of her teammates.

While fleeing from an unexpected assassin herself, Kendra escapes into a stairwell that promises sanctuary but when she stumbles out again, she is in the same place - Aldrich Castle - but in a different time: 1815, to be exact.

Mistaken for a lady's maid hired to help with weekend guests, Kendra is forced to quickly adapt to the time period until she can figure out how she got there; and, more importantly, how to get back home. However, after the body of a girl is found on the extensive grounds of the county estate, she starts to feel there's some purpose to her bizarre circumstances. Stripped of her twenty-first century tools, Kendra must use her wits alone in order to unmask a cunning madman.

To enter to win 1) add the book to your “to read” shelf and 2) answer the following questions:

If you could time travel to the past, what time would you choose and why?

Giveaway ends on June 26th. The winner must provide their mailing address via PM to the author. Open to U.S. residents only.

TXBRITGAL | 1 comments England in the early 1970's-- to see the politics, the music and more in living color.

Lizz Taylor | 218 comments If I could travel back in time it would be to the 1893 Chicago World's Fair...as long as I didn't die in the fire that broke out in the cold storage building or get murdered by Dr. Holmes in his house of horrors. Or maybe just the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair to be safe. To be at one of those world fairs with so much that was fresh and new at the time but vintage to our time. Also, to be among those who had lived the civil war but had no idea of the upcoming wars that would take so many lives. It would just be fascinating...as long as I don't spill the beans about the future.

Bob Faszczewski | 5 comments If I could travel back in time I probably would travel to the Roaring Twenties. Granted, in many ways it was a very dangerous time, with gangland executions, police raids and prohibition. At the same time, the United States was searching for a true identity and there didn't seem to be an effort to limit free expression and the irrational hatred we see today.

message 6: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Of course I'd wear protection and carry medicines, but I think I'd like to visit some summer in Europe around 4K BC, maybe spy on some earlier race of Homo.

My childhood would be another good time to visit if we're talking about 'as an observer' or just before I was conceived if I can't cross paths with my former self. See my grandfathers, both of whom died before I got to know them.

Sharon (sharonreadsbooks) | 2 comments If I could go back in time, I'd go back and ask my grandmother all the questions I wish I had asked her when she was alive. There is so much family history lost from not asking questions...

Tom Mathews | 119 comments I would like to travel back to the time of the American Revolution, As an amateur genealogist with several ancestors who participated, I would like to see how their lives really were.

Jo Burl (burlgirl) | 14 comments There are so many times to go to but I’m currently on vacation in the Black Hills of South Dakota and I keep wishing I could go back and tell the natives to band together for good and not to trust any promises from the US government. Don’t accept any goods from the white man either. It breaks my heart to see what we did to all the Nations, but the Sioux in particular since I’m in their land at the moment.

Yvonne Jocks | 26 comments If I could travel back in time, I would LOVE to visit a place that don't for sure know exists -- Atlantis, or Lemuria :-) No matter where I went, be it the 13th century or the turn of the 19th/20th centuries, I hope to visit a well-off area!

You might want to read the Newbery book The Wright Brothers: How They Invented the Airplane. For 'tweens and young teens, but thorough enough, with fascinating details and actual photos, it interested me even though I'm not already keen on the subject.

Alexa (alexac) | 1 comments Either Manchester or Nottingham, UK, in the late 50s (post rationing) and then late 70s. I have a particular interest in British working class social history in the second half of the 20th century, especially the effects of deindustrialization.

Michael Pickard | 7 comments I'd like to go back to Jesus' birth in the manger so I could ask the Three Wise Men why they left after meeting the son of God. That doesn't seem all that wise to me.

Bobbie Williams | 1 comments Before I travel in time, I have questions. Will I be safe? Because I want to wander any of the dinosaur ages. Without getting eaten, stepped on, poisoned, etc. If not...about 9000 years before Plato. I want verification or not about Atlantis.

Thanks for the recommendation! I read David McCullough's "The Wright Brothers" a few years ago and I really enjoyed it.

Anotherpath4 | 5 comments I would like to travel to the early Carboniferous Period, about 358 million years ago. There was oxygen, land, and plants. There was also not much moving on the land at that time and they would stick close to the water's edge. I would like to sit somewhere high, or near a beach where I could watch the happenings of early animals. I would of course have my cellphone (photo opportunity), a good supply of water (no plastic), some sort of weapon (I don't know how to shoot a gun, but I can learn), a lovely picnic lunch antibiotics (just in case), a tent, toothbrush. I want to be able to come home in about 48 hours! The moon was closer to the earth then. I bet the sky was a marvel to behold!
