Play Book Tag discussion

Focussing on three individuals, Wilkerson tells the story of the mass exodus of millions of people who left the South for cities in the north and west of the US between 1915 and 1970. It was really interesting to see each individual’s journey, as well as how undertaking this journey changed their lives and those of their families. The book did jump between the different people as well as the different time periods which made it difficult to follow at times, but it was clear to see why this particular book won the Pulitzer Prize. Rather than just give the facts of what happened, I was really drawn into how Wilkerson weaved it into an absorbing narrative.
