When should we start? I was thinking maybe next week or the beginning of July. My exams are finished by Friday so I can start anytime after that.
Maybe we should try to aim for a chapter a day? Idk, what do you guys think?
Next week sounds good! We can do however many chapters a day you guys want, but I do usually read more than that. :)
Alison, I hope you do well on your exams!

Best of luck with your exams, Alison!! xo
I am ready to start whenever y'all are :)

I grew up in upstate NY so you guys was my go to until I visited Florida as a kid and was introduced to the lovely word y'all LOL
Now I live in PA, where saying you guys is considered rude if you can believe that!

Hmmm...I grew up in NJ but right outside Philly. Our South Jersey accent is only slightly less intense than a South Philly accent, and "you guys" is definitely as much a Jersey expression as it is a Philly expression. Are you in western PA where they say "yens"?
I lived in the South for 8 years, and I often will write "y'all" instead of "you guys" because it comes off better in writing. XD

I write "y'all" because it's quicker and sounds funner in my head, but I always just say "you guys".

I don't blame you for having a hard time with all the states' abbreviations! They are hard to remember. I always have to look up Canadian abbreviations. 😉
So "you guys" isn't a Northeastern USA thing, huh? And even Canadians say y'all?? Who knew!?

I live in South-Central Pennsylvania (PA) in York County!
I read the prologue and first 2 chapters yesterday. Did you guys read through chapter 3? I can catch up easily as the chapters are not long if I need to.
So far I am enjoying it. I was a bit dismayed that the end of the prologue ended up being a cliffhanger and chapter one was 70 years later! I guess to an elf that isn't a significant amount of time, though.

Hi Sharon, sorry for barging in. I suggest the use of spoiler tags to your BR messages. The reason is that your co-readers might get spoilers of what you post, so they cannot really enjoy the book. Also this would help with the freedom of people reading the book at their own speed. No need to coordinate much. Wish you happy reading.
Oh, I guess I thought the only people checking this would be Angieleigh and Alison. I was only referring to the chapters the three of us agreed to read. 🤷♀️ Spoiler tags are easy enough on a laptop, but not on the app.
Not sure if Taz is following this, but if you are, what do you think?

I don't think we should need to have spoiler tags. We're reading at the same pace, so we shouldn't be spoiling each other. And if others don't want to read spoilers, then they just shouldn't come on here. Right?

That is what I was thinking, and I think it was Taz's intent when she put our names on the topic thread. So I guess we are ok with spoilers that technically shouldn't be spoilers if we are keeping up with the reading, right?

Right.
How are you guys doing with the book? Is 3 chapters still good for you?
How are you liking it? I am enjoying the plot, but I am not sure I like how Tellie is written. Maybe she will grow on me. It is still early.

I love the her style of writing. It's super poetic and beautiful! I don't dislike how Tellie is written, but she's not my favorite character either. But there is lots of room for development.
I really enjoy the Prisoner scenes. They're so mysterious and intruiging.

Yes, I do like the writing style in general. That's why I am not sure what I think about Tellie. I cannot see why I would not like her, so I think it is the way she is written. It's still early, though! I could easily change my mind. What makes her not your favorite character? (Maybe you will say something that helps me understand my thoughts on her. Does she seem immature? Flighty?🤔)
Yes, I was so happy to get to the first Prisoner scene! Hope, right!?😊

Well, I am certainly invested in the story now. However, I found the writing in these three chapters to be a bit, I don’t know, stilted maybe? And Kelm was a bit annoying to me. I think the stilted (or whatever) writing is what keeps me from loving Tellie. It seems to be centered on her dialogue. I think. XD

I saw what was said about spoilers and if you can't/don't want to use the spoiler tag, that's fine with me. This is supposed to just be for us who signed up to read together. :)
Because I suffer from anxiety, I never mind reading something ahead of time and I've been known to read the last chapter of a book and then read the whole thing to find out how we get to the ending.

I have a friend who does that, and I've always thought she was crazy. She doesn't do if for the same reason as you, though. I can see how it could help with anxiety.
Do you want us to slow down some so you can catch up?

Yeah, they do!😅 I guess we see where this is going, then.
I don't know what I think right now. I really like the plot, but I am not that impressed with the writing just yet. I did like it at first, but now I am not enjoying it so much. Maybe it's just me.🤷♀️ How about you guys?

I keep seeing grammar mistakes, and that does make me not like the writing as much. I am such a grammar nut! 😆 But other than that I'm enjoying both the plot and the writing.

Yes! I am finding awkward sentences that make me stop to try to figure them out. Definitely takes me out of the story. I feel like an editor should have caught those grammar mistakes and awkward lines.🤷♀️

I am sorry, guys. I read ahead. I finished my other book, and I was enjoying this one, so I kept going. I will be careful of spoilers.

I know, it's kind of too bad. 🫤

Oh haha, okay. It can be tempting if you've got time! XD

Haha, yes, it's definitely a great book! I'm glad you're enjoying it! 😄
Yes, I agree--knowing the Prisoner was Errance made those scenes all the more meaningful. I wondered if we were supposed to know or not. I thought it was pretty obvious.
I would agree that the Nornes were equally despicable to the Dursleys.
I didn't feel that way about too many words when I was reading, but most likely that's all I would think upon reread due to your suggestion pointing it out. XD I just didn't notice this go around. (I actually thought she needed to use more words at times to help me understand what some of the characters did or said.)
I don't think you need to use spoilers anymore. I was just using them earlier because I had read ahead of what we had agreed to.
What chapters are you guys on now?

I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow, and I'll be gone for a week and so won't be checking in here for a while. But when I come back, I'll hopefully have read a bunch and can continue talking about it with you guys here!

The author has put so much work into this world that she is creating. I almost think I should be taking notes to keep everything straight lol
I'd like to think that the "voice" that Leoren and Tellie hear in their minds is the Holy Spirit leading them.
Poor Errance. My heart just goes out to him. I can't even begin to comprehend all that he has bore over 70 years! His body is so scarred and he's just so defeated...I can't wait for when redemption finds him!
Have a great vacation, Alison! :)
Angieleigh, I love the world as well. Sometimes I was a little "lost" because my kindle does not zoom in on maps, so I couldn't read it very well, but ultimately, it did not matter much.
I think that is a good thought on that voice being the Holy Spirit. I cannot remember--do they use a specific name for God when they are speaking about/to that voice?
Errance! That's all I am going to say right now. Until you both are finished.😊
So, in chapter 18 Tellie says something I did not really understand. She says, "The eerie things Tellie had seen in the strange vision were as blurry and unclear as a dream, but she no longer doubted their reality. Errance had been gone, really gone, and for just a moment, she had glimpsed where he'd went." When you get there, Angieleigh, let me know. I want to ask you about it.
