Ben Jones is an independent truck driver, serving a lonely stretch of Highway 117 in the middle of the desert in Utah. His customers live along a 2-hour stretch of 117 and each with a unique back-story and a good reason for choosing the virtual isolation of the desert.
There's a loose sense of community, but by and large both Ben and his customers are loners.
As the book opens, Ben's shipping business is insolvent, he's about to lose the lease on his truck, and some suspicious strangers start appearing on his route. From there, Ben ends up involved in a few interwoven mysteries.
I enjoyed getting to know the customers on Ben's route. (view spoiler)[They don't all live through the end of the book, so don't get too attached! (hide spoiler)]. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.
