We received copies of Riding the Nightmare and Element of Doubt this week and they're shipping right back out. If you haven't ordered yet and want one, we ordered a few extra of each and can ship them out Monday morning. Riding the Nightmare doesn't hit retail for another two months.

I'll likely do Captain and diet coke with tons of ice (I'll need it after hiking in heat index of over 100), but I'll think of you while I'm drinking it.

Can't wait to read it!

Whitney | 4 comments Not specific to this book, but I'm wondering why more independent publishers like Valencourt don't sell ebooks directly. I'd much rather give my money to you than to Amazon of Kobo, but I'm assuming there is something about the way digital rights are handled?

Great question! We used to sell ebooks directly on our website but had to take it down a year or two ago. People kept filing complaints with Paypal because we didn't email them an ebook at 3 am while we were sleeping.

Earlier this year I tested a few companies that automatically deliver ebooks to customers. They didn't really seem like they were going to work for us. It was also kind of expensive unless you sell a ton to make up for the fees.

I'd much rather be able to sell them direct if I can find a better company to use. I tried Gumroad, Weebly, Sellfy, and Shopify.

Thanks for the response. I should have known the answer would involve some variation of "people suck".

I'm still actively looking and hope to find something that works! I'll let you know when we do.
