This month we'll be reading Wetware by Rudy Rucker. It is the sequal to Software. It won the Philip K Dick award in 1988.

I wanted to read this to continue the story. Nothing like a good brain eating robot story to get you thinking.

I'm starting now - interested to see where the story goes next!

I am halfway through. The sex and drugs and weird language are really taking away from the story for me. I am having to force myself to read it. I know there is a story in there somewhere...

Yes, I felt the same way - in book 1 the sex and drugs seemed much more integral to the plot. I liked the idea of a strange brain-eating cult actually being cover for (view spoiler) - but in this book it just seemed like the only jobs left on Earth were prostitute or drug dealer.

I'm in the midst of a big reading slump. I've only finished two books this month, well below my average.

I finally picked this up last night and got through about three chapters. It seems mildly more interesting than the first one so we'll see if I like it better.

It got better for me about halfway through. I think the names and the language kicked in a little more for me. It was ok. As I think about it, now I might read the third book.

I found almost all the characters quite annoying, even the most intelligent people just seemed to randomly do stuff without thinking it through because they were in the mood. Life just seemed to happen to everyone else.

But the concepts were interesting, especially the different ways that robots and organic life might hybridise.

Finished it but neither of these worked for me at all. The equality theme running through this one felt simplistic. Sta Hi (can't remember his new name) and his relationship with his new Wendy is problematic to say the least. I was tired of the drugs before the end of the first book and the language and slang annoyed me throughout. Oh well.

I agree, all the sexual relationships were highly problematic! None of the characters in the series seemed to have much in the way of ethics.
