Reading List Completists discussion

This thread is for discussion of Infinite Jest from pages 876 - 981 or roughly 89 - 100% of the electronic version.

It seems like we are down to mainly Hal and Gately.

Hal is trying to keep of drugs for 30 days to pass a drug test. All the while we learn more about his family and school life. What's interesting is the Hal scenes are in first person and I don't think any other parts of the book have been.

Gately is recovering from the big fight and trying to deal with the pain without taking any pain killers that may jeopardize his sobriety. Through this he is having vivid dreams and also reflecting on his life like Hal.

Not quite sure on the star rating yet - certainly 5 stars for effort and complexity of writing/story/research!

What's interesting is that I only have about 50 pages left, but it doesn't feel like it is coming to an end.

Go back and read one of my comments on the first section....think about what you've read so far....

I am thinking you are referring to where you mention Hal's story and immediately re-reading the first 100 pages. I was actually wondering, because of all the time jumping that is hard to follow, if I have already read the end, and that the final lines of the book wrap around into the beginning of the book (you do also mention that dates are important). A very Dark Side of the Moon situation - where you could just keep reading this book over and over again. Like singing John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt (never expected to refer to that song when talking about this book!)

I suppose if it goes on in the round forever, that is the Infinite Jest!

That could be one way of looking at it. But the STORY does have an end

I did it! Holy cow - I did it! I dropped the book on the floor like I was dropping the mic and said "Yeah, baby, I did it!". Now, just need to figure out what the heck happened!?

Oh, man! I just read a synopsis of the end of Infinite Jest and how all the plot lines come together . . . and I don't remember half of the things. I am sad to say that one of the main plot lines I never even realized was happening at all! :(

Ugh - how could I possibly miss something so big!

Happens to the best of us. That's why u read the 1st hundred pages again. There's a document that lays out the story chronologically that u can find.

AND U SHOULD HAVE TAKEN NOTES! LOL
