Welcome to the In Deeper Waters Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on July 19th and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

Each day we will be reading by chapters or page numbers. Page numbers are an approximation based on the hardcover or paperback that is the default on Goodreads. The suggested Buddy Read discussion schedule is as follows:

July 19: Chapters 1-4
July 20: Chapters 5-8
July 21: Chapters 9-12

Bopeep (bopip) | 1088 comments Hiii!

Have you started reading this? I've read the first 5 chapters, and even if it was so calm at first, I think there will be a lot of political intrigue.

LiteraryCryptid | 217 comments Hey!
Had back to back 17hr days of work (2 jobs), starting tomorrow

Bopeep (bopip) | 1088 comments That sounds rough D: Rest as much as you need, don't force to read if you're not feeling it~

I'm on chapter 13. I like the story but sometimes is slow paced and I get bored ^^'

(view spoiler)

Bopeep (bopip) | 1088 comments I'm finished!

Some parts (transition parts mostly) were kinda boring, but the ending was lovely and overall I've enjoyed the book!

I think this is the year when I read all of Lukens' books hahahaha <3

LiteraryCryptid | 217 comments I am alive! I'm so sorry I haven't updated yet, its been just a show and a half of people quitting and sick calls.

I'm almost finished. . .
Thoughts so far - Love the magical elements and world building. The fact that this is a world where queer characters are just so openly accepted made my heart sing.
This definitely is a quick read, managed 4 chapters in under an hour, and while I expected it to feel very rushed, it has a decent pacing.
Hopefully will be done shortly. . . I'm adding the rest of Lukens' books to my TBR for sure (just don't have the time or space for them right now sobs staring at overfull shelves and

LiteraryCryptid | 217 comments Alrighty! I finished it!

It was adorable! Definitely reads like a teen novel - and if it wasn't for that one scene ( chapter 16) I'd almost think it was more written for 9-12 age range (based on how my bookstore sorts books).

I get what you mean with the slow pace at points, but I found it did blend fairly well with the more fast paced sections.

I'm not saying I squealed in joy for Kest and Shay 's arc even though it was minor, but for some reason that made me the happiest. I would love to read more about them.

Bopeep (bopip) | 1088 comments Oh, you're right!

I liked Kest and Shay (and Garret) a lot, and I really loved the final chapter with all the family together <3 It was a cute scene to finish, after Tal said he would accept Athlen's death :'(
