Dan and Eden suffered a lot of damage resulting from Ivette’s addictions and Dan Sr.’s abusive behavior. How did this affect both of them? Why was Dan so awful to Eden? Are they on a path to recovery?

Neither one of them got to have a "normal" childhood. Considering how bad they could have turned out; they have become great people. Dan was looking for someone to blame for the crappy situation they ended up in and Eden was a convenient scape goat and Dan believed the lies Ivette told him.
