I have no idea what the pattern is! I think the focus on the curtains is simply from anxiety making her tunnel vision then get distracted by the other things she was anxious about and repeat the cycle. She was pretty scatterbrained which is understandable

why was she even thinking about the color patterns again and again when it does not matter in the end.

because thats what made it so great for me, she DOESN'T figure it out, it adds nothing to the plot, just like in real life. its just red being red

and the reason you dont get to know is exactly what i think made it so great, because thats usually what ends up happening and makes it linger in your mind for so long
