KateNZ | 4097 comments Recap of special rolls:

If you roll:

1-1: The current leader must move back 3 spaces on their game board and read the book where they have landed next.

Any combination totaling 7: You move 7 spaces and stay on that space, but you may read the book you land on OR one book forward or one book back - - your choice.

6-6: Don't like the book you will land on? You may roll again.

3-1: You get to take pick someone's next move on the board. The admins will use random.org to decide who will be moved. You get to decide which book they must move to next on their game board - - backward or forward -- within a 15 book radius. So you can move your opponent up to 15 spaces back or up to 15 spaces forward to the book of your choosing. Should you be reluctant to move another player ,or if you do not respond to an administrator's request to designate the move, random.org will move the player - odd rolls will move the player backward and even rolls will move the player forward.

2-1: You may use up to 3 of your participation points to move yourself ahead up to 3 spaces.

6-5: You must read a book that's on someone else's board and NOT on your own before you may roll again. (extra note here: you may read the book you land on first and then read the other person's book, or vice-versa. So two books must be completed before you re-roll).

4-4: Receive 4 participation points for the next book you read/review.

2-3 Get an extra "swap" that you may use anytime during the game.

6-4 Earn a surprise advantage to use anytime during the game

Sue | 2709 comments I'm ready for my next roll (7) dice.

Jen K | 3143 comments I would like my next role too please (1).

My last roll gave a 2-1 and I used two participation points to move forward 2 places which I noted on my tracker.

Joy D | 10069 comments I am ready for another roll, please! (1)

message 7: by Diana (new)

Diana Hryniuk | 837 comments I'd like to request a roll. My previous book had 572 pages (https://www.amazon.com/Angels-Demons-...), so I'll need 2 dice.

message 8: by KateNZ (new)

KateNZ | 4097 comments Now that’s what I call a happy randomiser, Sue!!

(I actually squeaked. And my husband said ‘what??’)

message 9: by Sue (new)

Sue | 2709 comments Yay! My roll takes me off the end of the Porter train!

I'll post my new board so I can get my first roll tomorrow.

message 10: by Sue (new)

Sue | 2709 comments Requesting a roll on my new (soon to be posted) Engineer board.

Roll (1)

KateNZ | 4097 comments Great stuff! The Caboose crew thought they were done for the day, but they’re now hustling about getting everything ship-shape (train-shape??) for your arrival tomorrow

message 12: by Theresa (last edited Aug 01, 2023 01:57PM) (new)

Theresa | 15500 comments Have you noticed, Kate, that GR is posting some of your comments several spots before whatever comment you are responding to! It is sometimes hilarious!

I am thinking the extreme time zone differential is causing GR some confusion.

message 13: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15500 comments Lordy, Sue, that was fast - but then 7 dice rolled ....

Firefighters have headed out to pick buckets of fresh blueberries, then will drop them off at the bakery which has the baker staying up all night making your favorite blueberry muffins. Other blueberry treats promised as well - there is some rivalry sparked with JoAnne after her blueberry tart contribution to the picnic.

Ah, the joys of blueberry picking season!

CGI Tom has promised to see that they are picked up fresh from the oven for you tomorrow.

message 14: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 3143 comments I'm not having as much luck with the die. That roll gives me a 1-1 so apologies to Joy!

message 15: by Sue (new)

Sue | 2709 comments Ohh…firefighters AND blueberry muffins! Im settling in with a nice cup of tea to enjoy this.

I hear there is a pool between the cabanna boys and firfighters as to which of your hunky dogs is accompanying you this time. Gnarly holds the pot.

No worries. I'll move back 3 once I finish the one I just landed on.

If Gnarly develops ‘hunk envy’ and misbehaves with the dogs, pack him up to the Private Parlour Car. We don’t want damaged dogs. I’ll make sure I have his favourite catnip mouse on hand and a comfy cushion. Jen’s right behind me so can always take it in shifts to look after him.

Also, be a good friend, Theresa, and save me a blueberry muffin - it is snowing on the hills today (yuk!!) - so blueberries would be a welcome taste of warmer times to come

message 24: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 3143 comments I'm more than happy to hang with any cats or dogs on board. I love animals!!

However I somehow got on the wrong train on the gameboards. It has me on the Engineer loop and sadly I'm still on Porter moving very very very slowly.

message 25: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5729 comments For the third time in this game, I landed on a book that I supposedly have in my house and I can't find it. I had to get it from the library or swap. I put all my books into GR back in 2011, but over the years, I have done several purges, and I didn't always take the books out of GR.

That was caught last night Jen, will be corrected. Sorry

Jen K | 3143 comments No problem, it was exciting to be an Engineer while it lasted even if as a stowaway!

Got you covered, Kate! Those moderating get specially delivery of the freshest! CGI Tom is using his private jet to fly them to you!

message 31: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12047 comments Well that brings me to 25 still in the baggage car and catching up on sleep all curled up with Gnarly, what a love he is.

That also brings me an extra swap to be used sometime in the game.

Theresa | 15500 comments Jen K wrote: "No problem, it was exciting to be an Engineer while it lasted even if as a stowaway!"

Somehow I'm not surprised that you tried to stowaway.... and I admire the chutzpah! But good you 'fessed up so our mods can save face.

I too am very very slowly moving on Porter -- I'm only on #13 and it's been 2 months???? Now some of that is because my reading time has been so restricted but that's still pretty slow. NOT helped by Ursula shaking me back to Clerk for a while there.

I think your moonlighting job on the train has slowed down your reading. You’re the train’s concierge, PR person and cruise director all in one,

Bah!!

*grumble grumble grumble*

I'm not even sure where I am on the train but are the firies in mine too - am gonna need some pretty things to look at lol

Moonlighting? Hardly! Most of the time Subdue Express is so well staffed and run (except for passengers from time to time) that I just check in and do my Subdue Express job while waiting for a day job zoom conference to start or some such. Everyone thinks I'm finishing up another legal matter, not taking a 2 minute social media break!

message 37: by Joanne (last edited Aug 03, 2023 06:10AM) (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12563 comments Looks like Sue is gambling with her new Engineer board-Sue have you not seen the mess Robin got herself into? Have noticed all the ones being rolled- Do you have any specials stored away? LoL-Good luck!

message 38: by Sue (new)

Sue | 2709 comments I have definitely watched the situation with the 25 title boards!

But the majority of my Engineer books are big doorstoppers. I’m expecting to roll 2+ dice right up to the last stretch of my board.

My current book is over 900 pages so I’ll be able to roll 6 dice. Even if they’re all 1s, I’ll make significant progress forward.

I’ve got A LOT of travel for work planned in the immediate future, so loooong audio books are perfect for me right now.

message 39: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12563 comments Oh Great, Sue! I knew you had to have some sort of plan 🌞 I did not even look at the books so shame on me!

message 40: by Sue (new)

Sue | 2709 comments I appreciate you looking out for me! 😀

message 41: by Theresa (last edited Aug 03, 2023 08:17AM) (new)

Theresa | 15500 comments I initially thought the same about Sue's new board then recognized how long some of the books are and realized Sue did a doorstopper board!

Very interesting approach.

message 42: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5729 comments I hadn't thought to do a mathematical comparison but it does seem that with the extra rolls, doorstoppers are a good idea. I've been avoiding them.

Me, too!

message 44: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12909 comments Public note to self: get thee to the library to pick up next Subdue Book ASAP! Next up Daughters of Rome, after should be the Subdue Book and Hello Stranger. With Demon Copperhead slated to start either on the 14th or the 17th depending on where that falls, and time for the in real life book club discussion.

message 45: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 3143 comments Hopefully I just made it. I need another role please.

I used my first swap, not feeling the choice and really need to catch up on Trim!

message 46: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 3143 comments I like Sue's approach. I definitely need to get more over 500 page books on my next board to speed it up a bit. I do appreciate getting so many good books read but there is some satisfaction in moving a at a slightly faster pace.
