The Assassin's Blade
question
What order should TOG be read in?

It can be quite difficult to determine what order the ToG books should be read. However, I believe "The Assassin's Blade" should be read first. It comes first in the world's time order, and if I hadn't read it before "Throne of Glass," it would've been spoiled. What's your opinion?

I read Assassin's Blade third and really enjoyed it that way. I felt a good connection to the characters at that point so going back to Assassin's Blade made it more emotional for me.
I started reading them like this but I was WRONG and I'll tell you why:
- Throne of Glass
- Crown of Midnight
- Heir of Fire
- Crown of Midnight
- ASSASSINS BLADE
- CURRENTLY tandem reading of Tower of Dawn and Empire of Storms
- Kingdom of Ash
Now, I started reading Heir of Fire first because I heard about a specific character that I really really REALLY wanted to meet, but at the end of the day, there are so many call backs to Assassin's Blade and Celaena's life before TOG. To know that she has previously walked some of the rooms that we got to see in Heir of Fire.... Man I messed up and I'll never get it back.
Do better than me. Read it this way:
- Throne of Glass
- Crown of Midnight

- Kingdom of Ash

if you want heartbreak from the JUMP...
- ASSASSINS BLADE
- Throne of Glass
- Crown of Midnight
- Heir of Fire
- Crown of Midnight
- I'm currently tandem reading of Tower of Dawn and Empire of Storms
- Kingdom of Ash
I'm so glad i read Assassin's Blade FIRST. there's a lot mentioned in the other books about a certain character and i loved having that story first, to look back on. the heartbreak from Assassin's Blade never stops throughout the books!!!!

I'm reading the series right now, and the order I went in was recommended by the author on her website. I did Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, and just finished The Assassins' Blade. Now I'm onto Heir of Fire.
A lot of people though read it in the order of publication, which is fine depending on the person. From how I started with the series, I think I would've DNF'd the whole series if I started with The Assassins' Blade. I personally think that you can see how the author matured between book 1 & 2, so reading those and THEN jumping back to TAB made it better for me.
I've also seen some people recommend reading TAB after Heir of Fire? Idk any reviews for doing it that way, but I have seen people go that route.

I didn´t knew that the author recommended a reading order. I read the assassin´s blade after heir of fire and it worked out really well for me and I can recommend reading it like this.
Im currently reading in chronological order so TAB first, up to QoS atm. I dont have any issues with reading this way, and its chronological for a reason right?
The other books have throwbacks to things in TAB so im kinda glad i had a reference to them while following the story as is.

I definitely think reading The Assassin Blade first is the way to go because if you read Throne of Glass first there will be holes and questions that won't be answered until you read the Assasssions Blade.
I read the TAB first then TOG and tbh I was bored. So, I hope you enjoyed the order you read them in, needed a break from the enemy to lover troupe so I picked up Slewfoot by Brom. After I finish Slewfoot, I'm gonna brave TOG's 2nd book! They said if you liked the ACO series more than the TOG one, than the reader must like romance, I'm not so sure. All I know is that TOG first book was stale, much like ACO's first book. so maybe it's just the first book that she gets stuck on, idk
Read assassins blade after heir of fire. There is a natural pause in the series and you don’t really need to know the backstory before crown of midnight
Read assassins blade between crown of midnight and heir of fire. knowing what happens makes us appreciate the time we have with sam. and it is also a huge mystery who was responsible. so if you read it first there is no mystery. also heir of fire is a beautiful healing story for her. so knowing the full story and them heal with her ....... one of the best experience ever.
people say "i will die on this hill, assassins blade should be read first!" and others say "assassins blade comes third, and i will die on this hill!!" but i say DONT FCKIN READ ASSASSINS BLADE BECAUSE ITS WRITTEN TO MAKE YOU SOB. I CRY EVERYTIME I READ IT CAUSE OF FCKING SAM AND HOW MUCH I HATE AROBYNN. but assassins blade 1st makes it really nice when you finish kingdom of ash because of how sjm brings back TAB characters like Yrene and Ansel - its like tying up all the loose strings so it makes for a really nice and satisfying finish. my fav 'loose string' is probably how she always says "gods be damned" cause she really does damn the gods in the end, its just a little bit of foreshadowing and its a small detail but its the little details like that one that make sjm's writing so good.
Best to read Assasins Blade first then the rest in order of publishing. I didn't bother dual reading the two books towards the end as it just seemed too messy. I am on the last book now and have no idea what to read next.
Read it third for sure, that’s what I did and it made sense.
I read them in the order the author wrote them. it just feels right to do that.
