Lyra and Sam meet when he agrees to be her bodyguard as a favor to Alec Buchanan. Of course, sparks fly and their dance begins. Both are described as drop dead gorgeous. Why are there never any ordinary looking heroes or heroines? Why not at least one heroine carrying just a wee bit of extra weight?? Oh well. Thoughts on the pairing of Sam and Lyra as a couple? What do they each bring to the relationship?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I've often wondered why everyone is drop dead gorgeous too. Jordan Buchannan wore glasses. Sam suffers from what a lot of couples suffer from: "I can't love another, because I was hurt badly by love." Not my favorite trope. Sam can screw anything that attracts him, but don't expect anything other than a great organism. Lyra sufferers from "The heart wants what the heart wants" and ignores both what her brain and the guy tells her.

I seem to be in a rather cynical phase right now. I need to go read a romance where the characters are a little more honest with themselves.

I really did like Sam and Lyra. He was supportive and protective of her, and she was gone over how hot he was.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments I keep hoping that sometime the H/h will be drop-dead gorgeous only to each other, not that they would set everyone's heart racing.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I would love to read a book where either the hero or heroine don't look like professional models. Those books are few and far between.

I agree. It's easier to find an imperfect heroine in a rom-com nowadays. I have read a few of those where the heroine is overweight. Usually nothing drastic but a bit heavier than super model gorgeous. And btw - I don't think most super models are beautiful...they're always way too thin imo!

Agree. Many of them are way too skinny.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I've read a few "imperfect" heroes and heroines. Mostly they are over forty, or in mysteries. I love when a character is described as "not traditionally" beautiful. Hero in the St. Cry series is described by Sebastian that way, but the longer they are together, the more beautiful she becomes to Devlin.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments If you look at people as a whole, very few are drop dead gorgeous. Sharon, I love your example of Hero. You are exactly right.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments -- yes, Hero is an excellent example!

I agree - Hero is the perfect example! I've got to return to that series as I love it!!
