Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod

Yay haven't ventured into this challenge yet (other than TT) but this will be a good reintroduction.

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
Manman Duck has come to play

100 to 175/Red and blue on cover/MPG Romance/Title starts with a letter in FLOOD/Only one eye on cover

Shouldn't be too bad (at least it's not Cerberus)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
Music mpg and instrument on cover are now covered by one of my next reads.

It's the first in a series and no idea about the funeral, but I'll take what I can get.

Yay! Happy you're joining us Sophie! :D

message 12: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12854 comments Ok, spinning the next wheel!

El Duende

1 350 to 450
2 hat on cover
3 Set in Latin and South America, The Philippines, or Guam
4 Cave in text
5 MC is under 18 (for at least 50% of the book)

message 13: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12854 comments And my current book has someone wearing a hat on the cover :)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod
well, my current actively reading books are not helping me out here!

one is 350 pages, and in a S American influenced location, but it's entirely fantasy land, so that's of only limited use. It might have cave in though, so I'll check that and confirm! - ETA: It does! so I've got those two in El Duende :)

The one I'm mostly actively avoiding does have one eye on it, but I'm really not sure I can take the pain, even though reading it would get it off my TBR closet, and that darn Line of Shame is creeping up again!

message 15: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12854 comments Yeah, I'm trying to factor in the closet with my next print book choice... Not faring too well as I'm insisting it must also have a 9 in the page count! 😂

message 16: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod
8s are (nearly) as good!

message 17: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12854 comments Cat, can you remember if Gideon the Ninth has a funeral in it? (it seems like the kind of book that should have!) That one's my next-up audio and so far it doesn't fit anywhere else, lol.

message 18: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12854 comments Cat wrote: "8s are (nearly) as good!"

true, which will be my compromise point if I can't find a 9, lol.

Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod
I also read the two Virginia Woolf books for Turf Wars.... went from them to the latest St Mary's book - felt the need for some action action action after all that wafting about thinking thoughts about art and life and keeping the men happy!

message 20: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12854 comments Sounds like a very sensible course of action to me. If it isn't tempting catastrophe to use the word sensible in conjunction with St Mary's 😂

Sammy wrote: "Cat, can you remember if Gideon the Ninth has a funeral in it? (it seems like the kind of book that should have!) That one's my next-up audio and so far it doesn't fit anywhere else..."

ummmm.... maybe kinda if we squint. There are deaths, and events that could maybe be classed as consigning the body to the next stages / funerary remembrance rites. possibly a flashback that would work as such?

message 22: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12854 comments I'll be on the lookout for those as I'm listening. I'm playing challenge tetris now, trying to fit one book to several different challenges 😂

we do always have the page counts here, if nothing else.

I'll spin a fourth monster in for us (we can have up to 5) as Mel is joining - yay! - I've exercised patience!

message 24: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12854 comments Mel will be joining us later today, so she can give that final wheel a whirl, and then we can decide which wheel we want to double up on?

(I vote Cat is banned from the Greek wheel, because you just know she'll hit the Centaur next! 😂)

message 25: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod
or the Boar! I'm totally fine with only being allowed to spin the Greek as a very special treat!

message 26: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
Yay for Mel joining us!

I've been doing a St Mary's reread for comfort as well as working through the time police series.

I keep forgetting that I'm looking for page counts and lists - turfs are just going to have to deal with what they get.

Here I am. 😊 Checking out this thread now.

message 28: by Melindam (last edited Aug 18, 2023 09:29AM) (new)

Melindam | 8288 comments I got

The Cigarette-Smoking Man (The X-Files)

100 to 175
Tagged UFO or Aliens (10 times minimum)
Read a book with partners (your interpretation)
Published between 1993-2018
Hand holding something on cover

message 29: by Melindam (last edited Aug 18, 2023 10:18AM) (new)

Melindam | 8288 comments Question: I have finished My Kingdom for a Horse The War of the Roses (A Very, Very Short History of England Book 5) by Ed West today. Does that count already or do I have to start sth afresh?

If yes, it would cover "hand holding sth on cover" and published in 2018. (I put it on the sheet, but can delete, if it doesn't count)

-----------------------------

Also, I am reading England in the Age of Chivalry . . . And Awful Diseases The Hundred Years' War and Black Death (A Very, Very Short History of England Book 4) by Ed West and it is nonfic, but has already mentioned the funeral of Henry III

------------------

I am reading Wild Country (The World of the Others, #2; The Others, #7) by Anne Bishop as well, has MPG Romance and only one eye on cover.

message 32: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12854 comments Cat, you want to choose a wheel for our final spin?

message 33: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8288 comments Sammy, I added some books to the sheet, but feel free to move them if you finish sth that fits sooner. :)

message 34: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12854 comments It's all good. :)

message 35: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12854 comments Dang it! My book with the hat has MCs under the age of 18... for around 40% of the book. *sigh*

Melindam | 8288 comments Ah well... sh*t happens

message 37: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12854 comments They're currently getting up to some decidedly 18+ stuff. A little disconcerting when a few minutes ago they were still kids, lol.

Just a question of which of us claims it!

Which teams are you in? I landed up in Alf and while there are familiar names, there's no one I've really chatted to before.

message 41: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod
Paul. The grey bald one.

Lead by Jenny and Angie, who roped Sammy into that team too 🙂

message 42: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8050 comments Coming over to compliment this new team on the team name and the picture at the top, and here I am being maligned. "Roped Sammy into it". I mean really.
As if I would do something like that.

message 43: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8288 comments Ahh, Jenny. You have to bear the cross of being misunderstood. (giggles)

Perhaps you'd prefer seduced??

message 46: by Melindam (last edited Aug 19, 2023 04:51AM) (new)

Melindam | 8288 comments This 100-175 pagecount is even more irksome than the 500+ for TT, LOL. Practically I have almost nothing to cover them with.

And it's even more annoying that my current short audiobooks are just over 180 pages.

But I found a short Christmassy read of all things, so I will add that to one of the monsters. ;)

message 47: by Melindam (last edited Aug 19, 2023 04:58AM) (new)

Melindam | 8288 comments Also, before I start reading The Disorderly Knights by Dorothy Dunnett, I need to read sth about the 1565 siege of Malta , otherwise I will not be able to keep up with Dunnet and her superhero, Lymond. ;)

Thankfully, Audible Plus is obliging, so I am grabbing a free listen: The Great Siege, Malta 1565. Hopefully it will fit some monster or other.

message 48: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12854 comments If we get Cerberus again in the not-too-distant future, I'll take the music/instrument tasks. Soul Music is next up in my Discworld re-read 😉

I'm slowly slowly working my way through the Niccolo series. It's so dense with facts!
