In the new crime thriller from #1 New York Times-bestselling J.D. Robb, a small and easily concealed weapon wreaks havoc, and the killer is just a face in the crowd.

Jenna’s parents had finally given in, and there she was, at a New York club with her best friends, watching the legendary band Avenue A, carrying her demo in hopes of slipping it to the guitarist, Jake Kincade. Then, from the stage, Jake catches her eye, and smiles. It’s the best night of her life.
It’s the last night of her life.

Minutes later, Jake’s in the alley getting some fresh air, and the girl from the dance floor comes stumbling out, sick and confused and deathly pale. He tries to help, but it’s no use. He doesn’t know that someone in the crowd has jabbed her with a needle—and when his girlfriend Nadine arrives, she knows the only thing left to do for the girl is call her friend, Lieutenant Eve Dallas.

After everyone on the scene is interviewed, lab results show a toxic mix of substances in the victim’s body—and for an extra touch of viciousness, the needle was teeming with infectious agents. Dallas searches for a pattern: Had any boys been harassing Jenna? Was she engaging in risky behavior or caught up in something shady? But there are no obvious clues why this levelheaded sixteen-year-old, passionate about her music, would be targeted.

And that worries Dallas. Because if Jenna wasn’t targeted, if she was just the random, unlucky victim of a madman consumed by hatred, there are likely more deaths to come.

Mdy | 224 comments It sounds really good -- and I'm glad the Avenue A folks will be back.
It's just a long time till January...the end of January seems to make it longer. Always good to have something to look forward to.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15049 comments Mod
I’m excited, too, about getting more of Nadine & Jake. This should be great.

I don't know Jonetta. Publication dates vary - sometimes our Australian published books aren't released in the US until some months later. But I'll be down at my local retailer on the 7th February :)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15049 comments Mod
I know that happens with a lot of releases but didn’t realize that was the case with books in this series.

Brenda | 217 comments No I didn't either until I checked with my bookshop. The Aussie publisher who publishes these has 7th on their information page.

ElectricOutcast (electicoutcast) | 637 comments I'm gonna have to wait until next week to pick up the book, I'm a little short on cash.

Veda (moonchild63) | 104 comments Man, it was hard from the excerpt in the Nora Newsletter! Just finished it at 3 am - the take down was in play before I headed to work which made it difficult to even go to work & so when I got home there was no way that I could put it down 😵

Its like Lays potato chips to me @ that point 😅

Now, I await September 😒

But aren't fans lucky we get 2 books a year?! With so many series and writers, you're lucky to get the next book in a series in 2 or more years.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15049 comments Mod
It’s the sad consequence of being caught up. I was warned…

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 21 comments I really have to get back to this series. The good thing is that I am so far behind that I don't have to wait on new books. I will try to go in order of what is available in library.

Excellent!

ElectricOutcast (electicoutcast) | 637 comments Seeing as how the book has been out long enough, I think it should be okay to bring spoilers up.

That being said, somebody brought this up on Reddit and while some of the arguments were valid, what made it lose some credibility for me was accusing Nora of using Ghost Writers again. But I'm gonna post the link and if any of you can't see it, I'll copy/paste what this person said in the next post.

ElectricOutcast (electicoutcast) | 637 comments The following text is from the Reddit poster that I'm posting in case no one was able to access the link I posted. I will delete it later in case the link did work:

I started a series re-read last summer, and have pretty much had an audiobook playing every spare minute of the day since then. Otherwise, I don’t think I would have noticed this. In an earlier book, I remember Roarke being a bit embarrassed he was like 13 when he lost his virginity and in a later book he found out he was a year younger. Eve made the connection and asked if that meant he was 12 when he lost it. She also told him details about her sex life. Not positive on hers, but I feel like she said she was 17 and tried it because ending else was doing it.

[Semi-spoiler] In Random in Death, they have this (supposed to be) poignant scene where they tell each other about their first time and Roarke says he was 15 and Eve says she was in the Academy. And they BOTH acted like it was the first time they had had the conversation! Am I crazy or did anyone else notice that? That seems like a major character error for a writer to make.

I don’t know why that bothered me more than the unbelievability of the killer or the teen slang. Teens know how to talk seriously to adults when it’s important! But I can forgive an author for not understanding teens… it’s much worse to not know her own characters.

Again, these words are not mine, they came from someone else.
