Hannah | 3276 comments Whilst this was not a perfect book, it does tell a very powerful story of what could happen if people allow themselves to be divided by hate and lies and allow people in power to act without much oversight. Set in the near future, America has elected an anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim President. In an echo of how Japanese Americans were treated during WW2, internment camps are being set up where Muslims are taken without having committed any crime, solely because of the religion they wrote on the most recent census. Layla finds herself taken, together with her parents, to the first internment camp in the middle of the night with only 5 minutes to pack. Whilst her parents are doing their best to go unnoticed, Layla and many other teenagers in the camp decide to fight for their freedom. I was tempted to give this book 5 stars, especially having read the Author’s Note at the end of the book, but I did have one issue with it. (view spoiler)
