Kingdom of Ash question

I started Throne of Glass a while ago and just couldn’t finish in Empire of Storms. I was too lost. I want to try to reread the series but am wondering if anyone has tried either the Romantic, Purist, or tandem read between EOS & TOD? Which way is the best way to read the series for it to make the most sense? Thanks!
