message 1: by SarahKat, Buddy Reads (new) - rated it 2 stars

SarahKat | 6225 comments This thread is to discuss Mortal Engines, the first book in the The Mortal Engines quartet by Philip Reeve.

Pages: 326 pages

Length: 1 month (September)

Participants: SarahKat, Rachael

Everyone reads at their own pace during a Buddy Read. Because participants can be at different parts of the book at different times, it is extremely important to mark spoilers so that the book is not ruined for someone who is not as far along as others!!!

Mark spoilers by placing {spoiler} before the text and {/spoiler} after the text but use the < and > instead of the { and }.

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 4742 comments I'm starting this book a few days early

SarahKat | 6225 comments I should be able to start tomorrow!

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 4742 comments I've read about a quarter of this so far. Very interesting world building but I think I want a bit more about the characters.

SarahKat | 6225 comments I'm a little bit behind you but I agree. Did you see the movie? I saw it shortly after it came out (so it's been a few years), but this might be one of those rare cases where the movie is more enjoyable.

I enjoyed the name of the town that decided to stop traveling. Dunroamin. hehe

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 4742 comments I haven't seen the movie. There are more puns to come...

message 7: by SarahKat, Buddy Reads (new) - rated it 2 stars

SarahKat | 6225 comments Finished. I didn't care for this very much! I found a lot of it sort of boring. I think the problem was the characters just didn't bring much emotion with them. A lot happened, but I didn't really *feel* it. I liked the beginning and the end but the middle was all a muddle.

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 4742 comments This book was definitely lacking something. I'm not sure why I gave it four stars actually
